Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 coming to PSN today
+ Posted by John Diamonon // Capcom
What’s going on, PS3 playaz? I’m pleased to announce that Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 is now available on the PlayStation Store for only $9.99! The spiritual successor to the classic Commando and Mercs series arrives with the frenetic arcade-action you remember, combined with 3D HD graphics and 3 player online and local co-op. (You can even ride tanks and jeeps together!)
History note: Where did the name “Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3” come from? Well aside from our penchant for extremely long game titles (see the entire Street Fighter series), the name is taken from the original 1985 Japanese coin-op, “Senjo No Okami”, which means, you guessed it, Wolf of the Battlefield.
Here’s an exclusive gameplay clip:
And here’s a cool wallpaper featuring the new Commandos, Wolf, Fox and Coyote:
Ok, I know many of you are disappointed that the game doesn’t come with a Street Fighter HD Beta. We did everything we could to try to make it happen, but bottom line, we’re working hard to make a game that you’ll be extremely happy with. As an added bonus, we’re giving you the opportunity to play Commando a week before the XBLA version releases. Finally, for all the PlayStation Street Fighter fans, we are planning some cool stuff for you, so stay tuned.
But I digress, Commando 3 is a great pick-up-and-play game for you and your friends, with that old school, arcade style flavor. You also won’t be disappointed with the graphics since this game makes fantastic use of the PS3 shaders, depth of field, dramatic lighting and particle effects. For a downloadable game at $9.99, you can’t go wrong! Try it out.

About how many hours of gameplay is there?
jdiamonon replied on June 5, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Totally depends on the difficulty setting.

Yes, voice chat is a must in this game. It’s a great way to communicate your strategy.

It’s all good, I don’t have time to beta test anything this week, or especially next
I’ll pick this up though.

Very nice but 9.99 for 5 levels? I hope it’s not too short. I know 9.99 isn’t much to some but to me I want “bang for my buck”.

Dont get me wrong, I going to get it…..
but what is with all of these super simplistic games thqt are all run off of the same engine… just like rocketman…
these games should not be 10 bucks…. i feel they are just pumping these out for money

willacuz | June 5th, 2008 at 10:51 am
Well… all of the potential customers would like to know if there is Voice Chat or not.
Would be great to communicate with people you are playing Co-op with.

Maverick_fox | June 5th, 2008 at 10:55 am
Nice to see new games on the PSN, but i think i’ll pass on this one.
there’s something with the new visual style that doesn’t like me, besides this doesn’t include the free SFIIHDR beta.

Maverick_fox | June 5th, 2008 at 10:59 am
@17
The surprise is Street figther alpha, there was an article on kotaku about it getting a ESRB rating to be released on the PSN.

Nice, i’m really liking all these casual games:)
37
SevenFactors | June 5th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
@34 & 35
For real. It is starting to look like either:
1:Sony forgot that some people don’t have/don’t like to have their CC’s
Or
2: That they don’t want our money and just like to drive us crazy by releasing these games
SONY you should know that when people want to give you their money, that means something. Or maybe you guys are too rich already and the PS3 is doing just too damn fine for your own good.

chaosatom333 | June 5th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Will there be a demo?
I think demos should be standard, because it really decides if I want to buy the game or not.
It mostly likely helps the game instead of hurting, imo because I haven’t heard of played the games before.
John Diamonon replied on June 6, 2008 at 12:21 am
We’ll have a demo up soon.

Thanks Venom! I have a poll asking which game you’d like to see ported on the PSN. Third Strike is one of them. Go vote! http://www.gamespot.com/video/extras/capcom.html

Me and my buddies are going to LOVE this for the weekend!

@6
You don’t have to have your playstation on to use remote play anymore. You can turn the console on via the PSP and go straight into remote play via infrastructure mode.
48
Jeigh | June 5th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
Three player co-op? Sounds good to me!
Thank you and have a good weekend.
John Diamonon replied on June 6, 2008 at 7:46 am
You too. Hope you’ll be playing Commando and not going.

cmargary | June 5th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
@31
The remote play manual is here
http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/psp/current/network/remoteplay/remoteinternet.html
If this doesn’t work is just a router ports you need to open.

On a side note: Jesus, this week’s update is already looking to be a landmark one and we haven’t even seen the full list. Thanks to all who contributed!
Though the downside is that next week’s update will almost assuredly be weak by comparison. (Well, except for the fact that MGS4 is launching that is.)
