The PSB & SOCOM.com Weekly Recap

+ Posted by Jeff Rubenstein // Social Media Manager

Any big news this week?
I feel like I can finally walk down the street with my “In-Shirt XMB” safely. CONFIRMED.
Thanks also to Noel for yet another awesome How To. More things like this on the way.

PS - it’s the longest day of the year - so you if take Snake’s loading screen advice and take a 15-minute break every hour (anyone?), then go ahead and enjoy the extra daylight. Especially if you live in Finland.

Would it be too much to expect firmware 2.40 details sometime next week?

A really nice feature would be if Grace Chen gave us another video tutorial of the features of the upcoming 2.40 update like she did when the store was updated.

Thanks for finally announcing it. Any clues on when it’s arriving? June? Early July? :D

Taking breaks during gaming? UNHEARD of!

I agree with the majority of the other posters. We need to know more specifics on the 2.40 firmware update. Release dates, details, or both. There’s no reason to be secretively quiet about it. It’s officially confirmed, and it’s clear that this is the ONE and ONLY thing that the vast majority of PS3 owners want to know about/have….break the cycle of Sony’s long standing policy of “soon” and Delays. Even if it’s to tell us that 2.40 won’t be out till X-mas (which would be disappointing) we deserve to know the release time frame. Waiting and wishing and hoping day after day, hour after hour, just brings a negative atmosphere across the PlayStation gaming community which is no longer necessary. Thank you for your consideration and the upcoming news.

MGS4 really shutdown any good weekly stories, but the blog had the guts to throw some good stuff out. That’s nuts, if you ask me. Well played.

You guys said we were getting the “official details shortly” on 2.40. When are we getting them?

14

Gravatar

VenomX  |  June 21st, 2008 at 1:45 pm

Will the official details have a video demonstrating In-Game XMB and trophies in 2.40?

15

Gravatar

Enedok  |  June 21st, 2008 at 1:46 pm

“official details shortly” means from 1 day to two weeks. In this case. It can sometimes means half a year, but not in this case. Relax people. It’s finally coming.

Still, it’s an agreement that we want to buy that shirt Jeff.

C-h-a-o-s  |  June 21st, 2008 at 2:54 pm

I doubt any info on 2.4 will come during a weekend, even Sony people need days off. It will come sooner or later people, hopefully sooner rather than later.

What is considered “work” for Sony employees anyway? Especially those on the blog. Going to a gaming event and then writing about it a day later? Hard as work comes.

I was unsure where to post this rant. I tried to post in the forums but it wasn’t working on Firefox 3. Where are all the Playstation 3 RPGs??? I know FFXIII, Versus & White Knight Story are coming at some point but how did SONY lose games like Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean IV??? I bought my original PSone for role playing games and now my PS3 hasn’t seen a half decent RPG yet. I can only play through Oblivion so many times before I want to jump off a bridge. I love JRPGs and our beloved system which made its name in RPGs appears to have abandoned them. Please someone respond and reassure me that the games I have mentioned are actually only stupid MS timed exclusives. At this point I’d be happy with Eternal Sonata but I’ve heard rumblings that won’t leave Japan when it gets ported to PS3. I know Killzone, Resistance 2 & LBP will be great but show us some RPG love. Is Microsoft just outbidding Sony for the rights to these games? Has Sonty abandoned Role Playing Games? I love the Sony brand and I want to be proven wrong.

SSeriously start selling those In Shirt XMB shirts!

Yeah Firmware 2.40 is the biggest release for the PS3 bigger than GTA IV or MGS 4 or any game.

Now I can enjoy my PS3 and Warhawk clan battle much more!

31

Gravatar

theycallmeryan  |  June 21st, 2008 at 6:40 pm

Can you please tell us about 2.4 soon and release it the day after lol? It would be great if you had a video on it too.

Bad ass shirts, lol. I need to get a some kind of PlayStation t-shirt, just so I can nerd out around my Xbox loving friends (what idiots, apparently they’ve never played a real game.).

Nice week, but next week, I hope we can see more on firmware 2.40. =) (Release date, please?)

AdeptHavoc  |  June 21st, 2008 at 9:49 pm

Oh also, for you people who are asking SCEA to confirm features in 2.40.

They already have, read the past few blogs regarding firmware. In-Game XMB, Trophies.

will you monkeys shut up about 2.4 and in-game XMB… and as for “the biggest release for the PS3 bigger than GTA IV or MGS 4 or any game” pu_leeez!! it’ll have a couple of handy features and that’s it.

anyway, soon as it’s out y’all gonna find something else to rant on about anyways, like Home, or LBP. you’re acting like a bunch of impatient brats.

it’s sunday, and i haven’t had my morning coffee.

*grumble grumble grumble*

WAITING IS GETTING RIDICULOUS IT IS KILLING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2.4 2.4 2.4!!!!!!!!!!!!!

39

Gravatar

VenomX  |  June 22nd, 2008 at 1:24 am

mobiletone we have been waiting a year for this feature. They finally just confirmed it was coming with 2.40 BY REQUEST. We just need them to tell us when they’re going to share official details. A date would for this would shut these comments up including mine.

Almost beat MGS4. The installs weren’t bad and they were short & it’s good to take a 2 minute break anyways. Best game I have played on a next gen console. Nothing comes close to the quality of this game and muscle that the PS3 delivers.

warezIbanez  |  June 22nd, 2008 at 1:47 am

There have been two rumors going around lately on firmware updates: 1) Incremental updates (2.37, 2.38, 2.39) after 2.36 to set up In-Game XMB and Trophy support, and 2) the possibility that 2.40 can end up being released at the end of the year.

I HIGHLY, HIGHLY doubt any of these rumors will be true. If you guys out there are worrying about the duration of firmware for the ps3, you haven’t seen the Zune- it’s good, but MS hardly updates the software (I’m still looking for that CLOCK!)

41

VenomX  |  June 22nd, 2008 at 1:53 am

@ warezlbanez

I seriously doubt Sony will do that either of those. But your guess is just as good as mine.

outkast32  |  June 22nd, 2008 at 6:39 am

wow this is my third comment….. now look inbetween this comment and my last one and read what all the other comments are about

…..THEY ARE ALL ABOUT WHEN WE WILL GET FW V2.4

WE ALL KNOW U GUYS CONFIRMED IT, BUT WE ALREADY KNEW THAT TROPHIES AND IN GAME XMB WAS IN IT.

WE JUST WANT A RELEASE DATE, AND HOPEFULLY REALLY SOON.

USUALLY WHEN SONY SAYS SOON THEY MEAN WITHIN THE NEXT 2 MONTHS, (2 MONTHS IS NOT SOON!!) SOON IS WITHIN THE NEXT 2 WEEKS. HOPEFULLY THEY GET IT OUT BEFORE E3 SO THEY CAN SPEND TIME WOWING US WITH OTHER THINGS BESIDES THE FWv2.4 THAT SHOULD HAVE ALREADY BEEN OUT BY THEN.

IM REALLY HOPEING FOR AN ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE PS BLOG TOMMOROW AND THEN v2.4 ON TUESDAY.

IF NOT THEN I CAN WAIT UNTIL NEXT WEEK< BUT THATS ABOUT IT.

43

Gravatar

tearsofash  |  June 22nd, 2008 at 7:06 am

I do agree that announcing those details about fw 2.4 makes it seem like it’s actually in the coming weeks or something. But even if there was a timeline, “whenever things are ready” always takes precedence over those.

This week was a good one for news. This was a pleasant surprise considering most everyone was secluded in some private location playing MGS4. I look forward to next week’s stories. I’m sure there will be plenty more great stuff on the blog.

You guys should have saw my face when I tried to sign into PLAYSTATION Network and it said a Software Update was required and it told me to go to [Settings] > [System Update].

It was amazing. Then my dreams were crushed.

“System Software Update v2.36

Start Update”

I hope firmware 2.40 comes quite soon, as I said before, I would really like to see a release date, or maybe even some more details or a few screenshots. For instance, will this In-Game XMB allow us to play music while playing the game? I know [DELETED] patented it, but hopefully you found a loop hole.

(Oh, did I say [DELETED]? I meant Microsoft. But same difference.)

49

Gravatar

tretle  |  June 22nd, 2008 at 8:33 am

They didn’t patent it god damn it :D :P The original Xbox boasted custom soundtracks and you don’t see Microsoft suing Sony over ps3 custom soundtracks do you.
And if they did keep in mind that 99% of Microsoft patents are bogus and don’t hold up in court.
Could someone link to this “Patent” because I don’t think it exists.
In game music was around long before consoles.
