Starting at 10AM Pacific Time today, the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta is live! Japan and Europe are already hard at frag and now it’s time for North America and Mexico to join the party! You’ll find the Killzone 3 Beta on the main page of the PlayStation Store; it’s also listed under the 3D and PlayStation Move categories for added convenience.
The Open Beta includes one map, Frozen Dam. All game modes can be played on this map:
- Warzone: The traditional Killzone game mode with game types changing on-the-fly
- Guerrilla Warfare: Our take on Team Deathmatch
- Operations: Our new story driven multiplayer game mode
- Botzone: An offline version of Warzone which can be played against AI opponents
The Killzone 3 Open Beta is playable in 3D and supports the PlayStation Move motion controller. The Beta trial runs until February 15th, so get on board while you can! If you have any feedback, Killzone.com has a section of the forum specifically set up for this purpose. You can of course track all your stats on Killzone.com as well.
Lastly, don’t forget that from Friday, February 4th through Sunday, February 6th we will be giving away 20 Limited Helghast Editions each day. Team members will log on to the Open Beta each of the three days to randomly select players in matches. We will not select players more than once during the sweepstakes and will notify the winners via the email address associated with their PSN account. Check here for official sweepstakes rules.

you can swap the r1,r2 and l1,l2 buton in options/wireless controller/advanced settings, it the the 2 option at the bottom of the screen.
and for those who ask what’s the size of the open beta, it’s 802 MB.

btw i like the change for the engineer skills, i couldn’t unlock the repair skills of the engineer in killzone 2.
Best 3D yet! I would have thought that an fps would have given me motion sickness in 3D, but it looks great and feels right. Move controll was really cool, but will take me a bit to get used to. Can’t wait for the sharpshooter now. Move and 3D really sets KZ3 apart, to say nothing of the game it self. Can’t be the 22nd soon enough.
Never played a killzone before hope this is good. Also is 15mins to download it a long time?
I was having the connection issues and I decided to quit for a while. After I re-booted the PS3, got into matches just fine.
Move controler is very, very hard to use. I had to scale down the sensitivity to 20% and I still went through the maps like a drunken sailor. The movments are not intuitive, but that’s because I’m not used to it yet. Might be better with a gun attachment (the gun is a no-gots for me yet). Still, it appears to work fine for me. Thanks for the beta. I’ll give it another go after a while.
Im getting tired of the same map all the time lol. love the clan tournaments feature.
Beta is amazing only problem is the lag and bugs but otherwise a great beta looking forward to the full game
Is the selection for skills, weapons and such scrolling wildly for any one else as well?
Other than that, I’m not having too many problems with it. The weapons seem insanely accurate, it’s all about who sees who first and draws their sights on target first now.

Never advertise anything the same ways other companies do, if you did, you would easily be the best selling console
i like the beta, but i think is missing something?? i dont know if is the fact that there are few upgrades(techniques, weapons,or maybe a better characterization? u know something that can make a difference between a Cadette/general??) also, is it possible to play co-op online?? like resistance2 or callofduty??
because so far this game looks like sc2(huge expectation same game with better graphics) or medal of honor(another shooter game)
my best suggestion would be to delay the game n make it more addictive. adding voices to inspire you, when killing a lot of enemies, would be a plus!! well actually i would like to see an extra help like callofduty but well i think is kinda late X(
Well I’d be playing it cept I’ve only been able to connect to 4 matches since I downloaded the client yesterday.
Whats the point in holding contests during beta if you cant even make it work properly?
Important question: Do your unlocks and xp point carry on into the full game? Because otherwise i wont bother unlocking all the turrets. Anyways, amazing so far, addresses all my issues with the second game and more, i love the brutal melees and the new easier to grasp layout and class system. Can’t wait for the full game, make sure to make lots of map packs and other kinds of DLC e.g. new guns, vehicles etc. :D Thanks Guerilla

I’m just having a multiplayer connection problem. All is good besides that.
North American Servers still seem to be down. Is there any estimation to how long this will take? I am loving the game and I cannot wait to get back on it.
I still cannot log in to play the online multiplayer! I keep getting error code 2005 or 2002….all my other mmos, playstation home, the internet, PSN Store work! what’s the deal?
I hate the controller options. R2 should be shoot and L2 should be aim.
Can’t get online (off and on problem). Very frustrating. I understand this “beta” is to help you guys iron a few things out, but I got rid of CoD BO due to shoddy networking. I thought Sony would want this baby to purr and decided to preorder KZ3. Please don’t make me regret it and have everything working as it should upon release.
This is great all the hype and a big let down. Big giveaway and cant even get involved. Been trying to connect to multiplayer (PS3), Western NY, several times since yesterday and it doesnt work. I’ve already preordered KZ3 to give it another chance. I didnt like the inability to kill people in KZ2. The connectivity issues and lag do suck with black ops but I keep playing. Games seem to be getting worse every year with lag and connections when they should get better. Most game outcomes are determined mostly because of lag and bad connectivity.
Why do we keep getting these issues connecting, this is 3 weeks from launch, its making the game less attractive to me.
I got on for 1hr and I gotta say it’s really sweet. Amazed with the meelee attack, really looks awesome.
Just played the beta and the controls are terrible. They should have the control slow down when locked in iron sights, Canceled my pre-order. Thank goodness for demos. Saved me some cash!

Ughhh really I just got back from work, & I expected to play some K3. Coudlnt play cause of connectivity issues. Now im inclining more towards buying MvsC 3 instead. yup.
@214 If you want auto aim or in other words an easy game go play call of duty , the controls are fine, better than Killzone 2.

The beta usually won’t connect. I feel like I’m luck that I got to play 5-10 matches on guerilla warfare not on botzone. Please fix this ASAP. Also, it makes you wait too long between rounds(1 minute) it’s annoying waiting 30-40 seconds for the next match, them 25 seconds to chose your weapons and stuff. 30 seconds would be perfect. Also, the Infiltrator thing is overpowered. You should make it so you can see them as enemies from a long distance, and if they get close you see them as a teammate(without removing the feature of seeing them as enemies by aiming at them).
Anyways, this game is great!

and those who whine because the controle suck (they don’t suck, you just don’t know how to play without auto-aim), you should try praticing a little. you’ll get better and you’ll have more fun.this is not a cod clone its killzone 3, stop whining because its not like cod.

Well, I’ve been playing randomly. That Network Error keeps showing up, but if there’s a will,there’s a way. Try every 15 minutes and you will see that it works.
I logged out last night and when i tried to log back in this morning the game just says its connecting…I left it on for about an hour but it never connected is this just a bug with the open beta or is it just me?
On the bright side the game was awesome while I was playing last night, love the new melee system the neck snap is my favorite :D this game is just what I was expecting from the Killzone franchise the controls flow well and have just the right amount of weight on them to make it seem more realistic i love this demo definitely buying this game.
I played yesterday the beta and my ps3 turned off 2 times while playing it, idk is strange that is happening while playing the beta, im not playing it anymore is a shame i like it so far but i don’t want my ps3 to fk up for playing a beta. Sony whats happening i want to continue playing it until the game comes out.

I like so many others can’t seem to connect anymore. I’m not too mad over this though because I did get to play and I am in love with it. This game may save me from quiting shooters altogether like I quit MMOs. For those of you who haven’t had a chance to experience it then I say be patient abit longer. When you do get to get in you will love it. I played for about 3 hours and am very satisfied. Even if I don’t get to play beta again I will be picking this baby up day one. I may even consider preorder. Great game from what I can tell.

I’m loving operations mode! The little Cutscenes really add something to the Gameplay without being all cheesy. Also Gun balance is perfect, what people don’t get is being 4 feet away from the receiving end of a shotgun blast usually ends in death! Can’t wait to try the Mechs and jets and other levels of multiplayer. I’ve gone from on the Fence, to Okay I’ll buy it, to now I want the Helghast Edition! Just fix the Connection issues and youll have another hit!

Connection issues are a concern. I will not be pre-ordering or purchasing untill the connection issues are addressed. I did get to play yesterday for about an hour and it appears to be a great game. But it sounds like its going to be a Black Ops repeat where it will be three months before the game starts working properly.
so its not just me then. its seemed kinda goofy to me to have a contest in which you have to go online to enter. now it feels like i have to win the lottery just so i can play the lottery. maybe you guys need to give us a contest we can actually play? in two days now i have only been able to get online 1 time and that is out of countless tries. I understand that a beta product is not a finished product and im sure the reason why we have an open beta right now is so on launch day we dont have dumb problems like this, but you are going to start out with a lot of bitter consumers when you say things like “sorry the beta was late, but here is a contest to make up for it!” then say, “sorry you cant get online to play said contest. its a beta and we are working on it” i have to assume you’re smart enough to know that you are going to have people who cant connect since you are so matter-a-fact about it, so why make that a part of your contest terms.?
Been trying to connect for 3 hrs, it gets me to the screen where i can check my stats and unlocks, then it says there’s a network error. It was fine last night.
Other than that, great game.
Just wanted to say I’m having the same connection problems, gave it a ping test and got 34 ms, but I’m still getting stuck on the connecting, I’ll probably give it a reinstall soon to see if that fixes it. Also, I’m not a giant fan of the Graphic Interface, notably the menus. Apart from looking bland it doesn’t use space that effectively and is just overall not clean. Although the game-play does look fantastic, so it is worth the buy. I am missing the slower controls of Killzone 2 though, added a lot of the essential grit to the game, but I understand the need to do away with it to market to CoD lovers. This beta could definitely be considered representative of the final cut, but a better looking interface and I would buy it 6 times. Great work Guerilla.
Yeup…same here…wanted to see what this game has to offer but I dont have 30minutes to offer of my time to wait for the muliplayer game to ‘connect’.
Don’t download Killzone3 It has a corruption in it and it’s causing my PS3 freeze and it causes all of these wavy lines to go across it. And if you already downloaded it DELETE IT!!!!

I kind of wish they opened this only to ps+ members as planned. Probably Tge server problems are coming from the overload of people trying to get on. Its a good sign though when people are pissed they can’t get on to play a 1 map beta. I’m loving the game and don’t over nerf the game to death over a few early complaints! At first I was going to complain about alot of Tge same stuff but got used to the difference in guns. One thing I would add is a custom button option for the Controls. That would clear up everything.
The first time I played the beta, I was able to connect and play a few online matches. Then I turned off my PS3 to eat dinner. Now, I am trying to connect again, but it keeps saying that it’s connecting but won’t actually connect. This experience has led me to decide that I will not be getting Killzone 3 because I don’t want to waste my money on a multiplayer game incapable of properly connecting to the Internet, and I doubt the issue will be solved in the final release.
