PlayStation Store Update

Grace Chen's Avatar + Posted by Grace Chen on Jan 10, 2012 // Sr. Director, PlayStation Store

Hey everyone,

It’s a release of great new content on PlayStation Store, including new games and some amazing first looks at some of 2012’s most anticipated titles!

Today, we complete the Final Fantasy PS one Classics presence with the release of Final Fantasy Origins. See the roots of the Final Fantasy series with this collection, which includes Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II. These versions sport updated presentations from their original 8-bit debuts but retain the same gameplay that launched this venerable franchise.

Additional games headlining the New Releases include Crazy Machines Elements and Choplifter HD. Create series of chain reactions in the latest addition to the award-winning Crazy Machines series or jump into a classic arcade adventure reimagined in HD with Choplifter HD! Both also have demos available for download.

You’re not going to want to miss two new demos hitting today: Asura’s Wrath and Final Fantasy XIII-2. On one hand, you’ll be able to try out parts of two episodes from Asura’s Wrath, featuring larger than life combat. On the other, try out the gripping RPG combat with Final Fantasy XIII-2 and glimpse what awaits this classic cast on their next adventure.

We hope you’ve been enjoying this month’s PlayStation Plus free games, and this week, we’re rolling out some great discounts available for subscribers. With some of 2011’s biggest PSN releases on sale, you’ll want to check out the Plus category in PlayStation Store to pick up some titles you might have missed! We’re also throwing in free minis Mecho Wars and Stick Man Rescue, as well as discounts on Add-Ons and PS3 Full Games as well.

By the way, to anyone who has been on the fence on buying NBA Jam: On Fire Edition… you should really get it now while it’s on sale. It’s much better than the initial version that was released on Blu-Ray about a year ago. Lots of fun. A sweet blend of nostalgia with new-school. A great game for the veteran gamers out there like myself, especially if you were a fan of the classic back in the good ol’ days. :)

I am a devoted purchaser of PS2 Classics on PSN. I have purchased all 11 titles currently available at the moment and am actively playing through them. Will there be more PS2 Classics coming this year? Is this a permanent, ongoing program?

Yep, more on the way and soon! This is ongoing, and we have out best guys working on getting these able to run on PS3. We’re also working on getting more publishers on board as well as we need their approval to release their titles.

I was eagerly waiting for the Hot Pursuit Super Bundle, but only see the DLC Bundle on all of the Plus pages( Last Chance, New Releases, Discounts). Even under Games – Bundles page, Hot Pursuit is featured but selecting that too lands on the Hot Pursuit with only the Game listing, Add on bundle listing and all of of the other regular items, anyone else see this issue?

Crysis 1 needs a video preview, come on EA. Also it does not have multiplayer to answer some peoples questions. I’m thinking about buying it for a few reasons. Deathspank is a must though. I think Crysis is easily much more forgettable. Oh and the the jellyfish dynamic theme is awesome. I wish that was free. Making those free along with more free avatars is a must. We need more and we need more free for PS Plus. I seriously cannot buy anymore avatars & the damn things are, well, avatars haha. Not buying any more. Five was enough. Some of the free ones make me think, “seriously? a pig with a watermelon butt for an avatar?”. Um, ok. No thanks. Then I basically paid to have an avatar that is advertisement for Capcom, being Mega Man. Which they keep putting on the back burner or cancelling like Mega Man Universe. Too much Street Fighter. I’m waiting for the Sony fighting game!

Well DL’d & played both Asura’s Wrath and Final Fantasy XIII-2….

Asura’s Wrath is a game I was previously excited about, after playing through the demo I doubt I’d even buy it used,or at a bargain bin.

FF13-2 suprised me,I have the first one,it was okay…”a let down when compared to earlier games of the franchise”… So I didn’t expect 13-2 to be much better, but imo the demo looks like they have fixed all the bad aspects of 13… and there is looking to be many aspects that are addictive in it for me…very excited about it now :)

Every month of Plus offerings that has gone by has been a month I was glad I didn’t subscribe to Plus.

I mean, I get what their “free” game system is really doing, and that offends me as a potential customer, but the only things that have appealed to me that have come out of the system were the online storage (which I wouldn’t need if the PS3 still had 4 USB ports, I could just leave a thumb drive in all the time without missing the slot) and I think the Borderlands bundle (which made it slightly cheaper to buy that bundle than the other DLC items I didn’t have).

There’s just not enough there, particularly in the way of discounts. Most of the “free” games have been things I’d have enjoyed actually buying at a discount, but that’s the nefarious trick working the background of that whole “free” game thing. Whatever.

Still hoping 2012 doesn’t blow like last year.

I’m dissapointed that the Final Fantasy I and II PSP remakes are not yet included on your store yet. They have been on UMD for quite some time. I think is time for you to release them digitally. Origins is not bad but I prefer the widescreen aspect ratio that the Anniversary Editions offer.

Hold on… someone in these comments STILL doesn’t realize that the only way the PSP and Vita are going to be able to play PSone Classics is if they’re released digitally?? Oh god lol. Wow. Lol.

Well except for Pocket Fighter, Motor Toon, and the less-than-a-handful of PSone Classics that can only be played on a PS3.

And what’s this nonsense about “overpriced?” I just went on eBay and R-Type Delta was selling for a whole lot more than the $5.99 on the PSN.

Hey, PS Blog, we would like an official announcement of the upcoming GT5 DLC that has been leaked. The Asia site already has a post about it. Why are you still so quiet when the cats been let out of the bag?

Wow its been over 20 years since I last played this gem Choplifter!! try 1986! Now for the remake of Choplifter HD The only thing that I think that sucks with this game is no custom sound tracks! Sorry Sony but the voices in this game is annoying! They whine to much! that’s why you should’ve included custom sound tracks! Also seriously come on Zombies again? Enough with this silly nonsense of Zombies in video games already! Zzzzzz

This isn’t such a great update.
Choplifter HD isn’t worth more than 5 dollars, in comparison to other HD remixes that launched at a lower price.
And the second part that makes this a lousy update is that Amy, the game that only got coverage on the PSN blog released on the 360 first.
I waited all 2011 to buy it on my PS3 after it was mentioned in 2010, then I turn on my 360 and see it there first. I’m still going to buy it on my PS3 , nothing is going to change that , but I just find the whole thing odd. T

Morgan Haro,

Do you have any news on when, if at all, the rest of the dissidia 012 dlc costumes will be brought to america without buying a specific game? which first off might not even have codes anymore. Europe got an exclusicive code from a game, and japan has one from some sort of tournament, and finally some came from preording some games. not everyone has a chance to get them those ways and would pay money to get them. so my question stands, is there a way to get them on the north america PSN store and the other places that dont have them?

XBL get’s everything first ein_nineteenth. Sony is on the other hand slow with just about everything you can think of in America, Lousy updates if you ask me! Still waiting for Platinum’s in all our games Custom sound tracks Cross Game Chat still after more then 5 year’s of waiting Sony! So why no Cross Game Chat on PS3 but instead on Vita? Ridiculous!! On a portable device why lol! Accident prone is about to happen with Cross Game Chat on a portable device! I rather have it on my PS3 Thank you very much! Sony has to come out with better innovative idea’s before PS3 is done with! I heard PS4 is going to be shown off at this year’s E3! Competition is all there gonna get with XB720, and WU!

I don’t see the big deal about cross game chat.

If I want to chat with folks while I’m playing a game, I want them to be folks playing the same game as me.

Custom soundtracks I’d like. No idea why this never got in.

@ein_nineteenth you forgot the best part about AMY..not only do ps3 users get it late, they also expect us to pay $12.99 for it when xbox users only have to pay $10

I asked this before, but I can’t find it. Does this mean that the original PS1 FF origins discs that we own from the PS1 days will work correctly on the PS3 now? It used to be when you got to a certain point in FF2 you could no longer continue because of a save bug that was not on the original PS1 only when played on the PS3.

Also I noticed something troubling when I downloaded a couple new PS1 games with Firmware 4.0 the installers get left behind and you cannot delete them without deleting the installed game. Is there a fix for this coming? If this is a new way of doing it, it will mean that every ps1 game will be listed 2 times in the XMB. This cannot be right.

Thanks for the update on the store. Keep the PS1 games coming and some great PS2 games would be cool too. How about a whole series like Suikoden 2 – 5?

Question for PSN team,

Regarding the SNK Minis. The description says “2p gameplay/ AD-Hoc not available”. Is that for PSP only, or is there no 2player option even when played on PS3? Thanks for the clarification. Have a good weekend!

Yeah, the Asuras Wrath Demo was really great. Over the top action.

There are a lot of quicktime events, but when the game is designed around them instead of trying to include them in stupid ways, they really work. I loved the part when you fight his master, and both are launching punches at each other at the same time. You switch from pushing the O fast, to pressing the /\ at the precise moment, to rotating the sticks, then back to the punches.
