MLB 12 The Show: Online Everywhere, Unified Settings, Play Now Plus

For years there’s been somewhat of a line between the online areas of MLB The Show and the rest of the game…sometimes that line was faint, sometimes it was distinct. Coming into the development of MLB 12 The Show, we really wanted to eliminate that line so this lead to the idea of Online Everywhere.

The game modes in the main menu of MLB 12 The Show now have all game modes, offline and online in the same list. As you can see from the image below, Home Run Derby is listed in game modes, once selected you’ll be able to select offline or online. You’ll also see Diamond Dynasty, which is an entirely new mode that mixes offline and online components and includes elements never before seen in a sports game (more info on both of those modes to come soon).

Moving over one click to the right from the main menu, there’s now a community menu with the online features available.

Unified Settings
Nobody wants to manage more than one set of user settings. In MLB 12 The Show, you set how you want to play in one spot: Options > User Settings. Regardless of whether you’re playing exhibition, Road to The Show, or an online league game, you’ll use your set of user settings. There are online game negotiated settings to keep the playing field even, but beyond those select few items, you play The Show how you want to play it.

Play Now Plus
Play Now has always been the best place to find an online exhibition game quickly. The single biggest request from the community with Play Now is the ability to customize certain user settings. Play Now Plus offers just that. Under the User Settings > Online Challenge Settings you can select those important settings you most care about and guarantee you find a game that matches those settings. If you’re an avid Guess Pitch off user, set it to Off, go to Exhibition > Play Now and you’ll be matched up with another user with Guess Pitch set to Off.

The best thing about all these features is that they’re available on both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. Thank you for reading and we hope to see you on March 6, 2012 when MLB 12 The Show hits stores exclusively on PlayStation. Welcome the The Show!

  • I defentyly excited for the ps3 version but if the vita version is the same experience I’d rather get the ps3 version first.

  • So is online play going to be super lagged for almost every game you play like it always has been?

  • If I can play my friend from the Vita to the PS3 I’ll get the Vita Version…

Itll deff be a buy if it has both. But I will be getting this.

    Keep up the good work!

  • Why is Amazon show March 27th as the release date for the Vita version? Is March 6th the date for both Vita and PS3?

  • Hey I was just wondering if the rest of the MLB avatars would ever be put on the PS store. There is still about 10 teams missing. I’ve been waiting for a Braves avatar since July or so.

  • Avatar photo

    Can’t wait. :)

  • @eaglefan129 even better idea you get both for one price like what they are doing with Ruin and Motorstorm:AC

  • Since these features are all on PS3 AND Vita, does that mean that the Vita will support online play? I know that cross-play has already been ruled out, but Vita vs. Vita online would be nice at least!

Also, any word on bundling for a discount, say $80 for PS3 disc and Vita download code? I want both, but $100 for two copies of essentially the same game is pretty steep…

  • LISTEN ALL!!! the us congress is going to vote on whether to pass SOPA and PIPA which could mean no youtube or facebook or any media outlets which broadcast worldwide information. we the people must stand together against this act of cruelty and fight against the bill so i urge you to go and vote on google so congress can see that we do not want our internet to be shut down.

  • All these additions to online play mean nothing to me because the lag is too bad for me to even use them. Instead of adding all this bling bling that does nothing to fix the lag, invest in dedicated servers so that me and many other people who buy this game can actually play online.

  • will there be any MLB The Show ps3/vita version bundle? so you dont have to buy each separately at full price ($100). if you have any info on this, that’d be great!

  • Welcome the show.
    Welcome to the show.
I got yo back PS Blog, holla at ya boy.

  • Does this mean that you guys improved your Online servers so there is a smoother online experience. Even when you have a good connection with a good router, you still experience annoying lag that shouldn’t occur.

  • Come on guys, European release of MLB The Show. Please!

  • I meant to say Warrior’s Liar didn’t know they change the name of the game Ruin to Warrior’s Lair

to all the people complaining about lag and no dedicate servers it looks like that it is going to have dedicate servers there is a group of gamers were invited to play the game this week and one of them is on a podcast that I listen to said something about it has servers now

  • Game is going to be amazing guys. Community days are on right now and they are fixing a ton of stuff requested by the community. Great stuff. New ball physics look sick!

  • @kilburni86 from what I have been hearing the vita version will have online and will have almost all the same features has the ps3 version

  • Sounds like a great game buying it

  • Is the Vita version going to be included for free inside the PS3 copy or how is that going to work exactly? I’d hate to buy the same game twice but I would like to have it on both systems.
