Special Launch Day PS Vita 3G/Wi-Fi Bundle Announced

With only 27 days until the launch of PlayStation Vita, we are excited to announce two PS Vita 3G/WiFi bundles. If you were one of the lucky consumers to pre order the PS Vita First Edition Bundle, in addition to the PS Vita 3G/Wi-Fi hardware, a limited edition case, a 4GB PS Vita Memory Card and Little Deviants game, we will now be including an AT&T DataConnect Pass good for one free 250MB data session (a $14.99 value) upon purchase of one 250 MB data session, and a PlayStation Network game – both provided upon 3G activation on the AT&T mobile broadband network. And the best part, you still get it a week before the official launch date.

Vita First Edition Bundle

We are happy to announce today that we will be creating an extremely limited edition PlayStation Vita 3G/Wi-Fi bundle designed to reward those who brave the cold to stand in line on February 22nd (or even those who come in the few days that follow). In addition to the PS Vita hardware, we will be including an 8GB PS Vita Memory Card, an AT&T DataConnect Pass and a PlayStation Network game all for the usual MSRP of $299. This SKU is part of a promotional offer and will sell out immediately so we strongly recommend that you purchase your PS Vita early to make sure you get the extra value!

While the system is a fantastic option, the addition of 3G-network access is perfect for the gamer that wants convenience, community and connection – basically the ability to immediately socialize with your gaming community. Using the AT&T mobile broadband network also allows you to engage in multi-player gaming, utilize GPS location-based digital gifting, stay up to date with continuous LiveArea scores and game ranking news feeds, compete for in-game achievements, engage in PS Vita to PS3 cross-platform game play, cross-game message with Party, and have access to software updates, all while on the go. You’ll also be able to login to the PS Store and download new content and add-ons for some of your favorite titles.

There are lots of exciting updates still to come as we get closer to launch, and we will be sure to keep you posted. Our goal here at PlayStation is to transform every aspect of life into an entertainment experience. We know when you get your hands on Vita you may really never stop playing!

  • First of all I guess I’m the one person who would be buying little deviants cuz it looks really fun. After much thought and reading every single comment here the FEB adopters are getting hosed a little. We’re paying for bundled value and feb 22 buyers are getting theirs truly free. I guess Sony is following the tech sales bible which states that you can hose early adopters because they will be there no matter what. This is true in my case, as I will always be an early adopter cuz I love new tech. That being said I don’t think Sony owes me a thing since they didn’t take anything from my bundle, but rather added free data to it. I still love it that I get it a week early. For anyone still wondering there’s NO way AT&T is going to allow us to play vita games over 3G. The data load would be massive and the Vita’s battery would be dead in about 30 minutes. It’s really for social features and leaderboards and yes, X GAME CHAT for those who care, and I only got it so I wouldn’t kick myself later when I need it. Email on the go is always nice but I have an iPhone for that. Hope this informs, sways, or at least calms someone’s nerves. Sorry for the obvious ADD writing disorganization. :)

  • The PS Vita First Edition bundle’s appeal, in regards to its packaged value seems to have been made null & void with the announcement of the PS Vita Special Launch Edition bundle when you consider the $50 you have left after your Special Launch edition purchase. With which you can still get the case for the PS Vita (a $20 value), and Little Deviants (a $30 value) or maybe something else. Making both bundles almost identical. Yes the First Edition bundle releases a week before the Special Launch Edition bundle; however, you get double the memory with the Special Edition bundle. Its your call, get double memory and $50 worth of options with the Special Launch Edition PS Vita, or get the First Edition bundle that contains one half the memory available with the Special Launch Edition bundle, less choices and a week early release date that will basically cost most consumers at least $20 once they realize they actually need the extra 4GB of memory included in the PS Vita Special Launch Edition bundle. The decision is ultimately yours as the consumer, but if you want more bang for your buck I find the PS Vita Special Launch Edition my bundle of choice.

  • @john Koller: will their be any additions made to the wifi only model, maybe a small memory card ?

  • Llega a Argentina?

  • the 3G seems like a waste you cant play online games unless your connected to wi-fi and are limited to 20MB files how stupid is that your much better off buying a Ipod touch it can do a lot more than the Vita this thing will be fail all around and 175.00 in a matter of a few months maybe even sooner.

  • No love for Canada?

  • I’m still going with the first edition bundle. A little FYI if you pre-order the first edition bundle at Target you also get a $20 Target gift card. Not sure if you get the same with the launch bundle.

  • For those asking if the bundle covers existing preorders it does I called and checked with my local gamestop. For those crying because wifi doesnt get it well hey we who decided to pay extra for the 3G one get more, if you wanted more than pay for it, if not stop crying god its annoying. Now I do feel that the first edition bundle should have increased the mem card to 8 gb, but hey you still get a free game and free data pass be thankful and stop being so pessimistic, Me I am excited I just wich people would stop crying if you dont want it dont buy it.

  • I think the 8GB Memory Card should be in both Bundles not just the one on 02/22/2012 launch day to be honest come on Sony have some brains for once in your life if you want better sells that’s what I would to do to keep people happy.

  • I haven’t seen any marketing/advertising for this.. I remember the original psp ads with the Franz Ferdinand song being so pervasive (and effective) I haven’t seen any equivalents here.

  • When I go to my Gamestop this Tuesday and pick up my per-order copy of FF 13-2, I going to change my already paid off FEB for the New Launch Bundle, and than per-order little deviants and a case if they have that option, I plan to get little deviants regardless as it way to test out all the features of vita, if it turns out to be like Monkey Ball I just trade it in for something else

  • @nightmare_lord I’m in the same boat with you I am thinking about changing my first edition to the launch edition bundle

  • well sony… i put so much faith in you. I wanted to believe that you would not mess this up. and that the vita would be well advertized and well priced to really take the handheld market by storm.
I am completely disappointed. every vita should be have had just enough system memory to manage with one game. if not, at the very least, bundle a 4gb to each purchase or give consumers 10 off any memory card w/ purchase of a vita.
sony unveiled a fake 299 price point without letting us know about the memory card situation. they should copy apple(pricing rumors for ipad) and make it appear as though the vita would cost 350-400 and then unveil it at 300 w/ standard memory being accounted for.
I preordered the FEB in august. and now I am just gonna cancel it and consider buying the 3d display.. but that display is also overpriced and not marketed well. smh sony.
I wish sony would do some surveys.. they are so far off from their consumers.

  • Any chance to see something similar even here in Europe?! We havo no bundle in program, but only some ridiculous preorder offers…

  • Hey now, if you already pre-ordered the limited first edition bundle, just cancel your pre-order and switch to this one, no penalities.
However, you US guys should consider yourselves lucky, at least you get to have a 3G model AND Canada’s plan for 3G are at least 2 to 3 times more expensive than US plans. Meaning, yeah, quit your whinning, you guys have some of the cheapest phone/internet and 3G plans on the planet…

In Canada, when the iPhone arrive, a year later, the annual cost to activate the 3G service was no less than 2000$ with 3 year contract and 5000$ for the one year contract…

And you tough 3G was expensive in the US… in Canada, just a home phone is at least 35$ to 45$ per month, basic plan with 1 or no features depending on where you live, sure Rogers makes publicity of 12.22$ per month, but our bill says otherwise…

Anycase, you can just cancel your order, I just did cancel an pre-order, as long as shipping hasn’t started, you’re good.

  • Btw: I bought the SS Mayhem bundle for Move at 90$ and the 3D display at 299$
Both were on sale, hell that’s even better than the Play Days offer I was supposed to buy, glad the Credit Card didn’t work the first time ;).
Anyway, you can all cancel and take the new one if you want, what’s the big deal?
Just make the switch, that’s all. Hell, just like the FEB, this one is also a 1 time deal, if you miss it, it’s gone.

You can pre-order this Vita bundle at Amazon.com or Gamestop.com
So just switch pre-orders, that’s all.
If they give you a 50$ credit that must be spend in store, well buy Uncharted or a psn card if you are to buy games online, either way, you are bound to buy games sooner or later, right.

  • Greg Miller in his new podcast for IGN said that little deviance was going to be a download only title with the first edition making the 4 GB your storage device for the game and making the launch edition even better value

  • Best Buy has dropped the price of the First Edition bundle to $299.99! I bet the people who bought the FEB now must be fuming… First the Launch Bundle, now $50 price drop lol!

Btw here is the link to Best Buy:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+Computer+Entertainment+America+-+PlayStation+Vita+(3G/Wi-Fi)+First+Edition+Bundle/2095647.p?id=1218308724397&skuId=2095647&st=Vita&cp=1&lp=10

  • Why is everyone whinning? If you think one bundle is better than the other, just switch to that bundle. Simple as that. Wow, I’ve never seen so many whiny people complaining they are getting screwed on an OPTIONAL device.

  • And either way you look at it, the First Edition Bundle is a better deal for ACTUAL gamers seeing as you get 2 games.

  • @ dilbig5 you can get 2 games with the launch bundle, with the $50 you save from the first you can use it to buy little deviance and not have it be a download one if that true, or buy Uncharted. Not the point you can easy change them, its principle of the matter how song went out and made a better bundle than First Edition one, without caring.

  • @Dragonchasers Because you are paying $50 more and that $50 pays for little deviants and the case, so for the same price you could get the 3g bundle with a memory card that’s double the size.

  • My mistake on my last comment. Comments page didn’t page over when I clicked and I responded to a really old comment. Still true though.

  • @Nightmare_Lord

If it’s just principle thats the problem then just keep the bundle you plan on getting and don’t complain. Just switch bundles if you think it’s better. Very Simple. Or just don’t get it at all, there’s your principle.

First Edition Bundle gets you the case, 4gb card, Little Deviants, and a week early access. The limited edition case would probably go for $20, the 4gb card goes for $25, Little Deviants goes for $30, and the week early access is probably worth $20-$30 as it is new technology.

All the Launch Bundle includes is a 8gb card which is only worth $10 more than a 4gb card.

You can’t include the data card or the free game because you get those in either bundle.

  • I have been searching the internet for an answer to this question, maybe somebody here can answer it for me. Can I have multiple vitas and ps3s on the same account? I have 4 ps3s, and can now only have 2 “active” at a time, I want to buy 2 vitas and use them on the same account, is that possible?

Every time I search it is just complaints about not having multiple accounts on a vita, my issue is on the opposite end of the spectrum. If I can add two vitas to my account I’ll pre order them today to get in on this bundle.

  • @sony
Yea, i think thats a littel redulisious about the launch day system having a better memory card. I mean come on, we’re paying an extra $50.00 to get it early, we should have the better memory card, i feel like sony just pulled an apple, screwing everyone with early launch for the people or will be there on launch day.

I love the free game download, dont get me wrong, but id rather the 8gb memory card. Ive owned every psp system and have lots of games from the store downloaded on my system, so i could use the space more then the free game. I think u should change this, in fact, how about this, people who ordered the 1st edition should get both the 8gb card and 4gb card together, or the 16gb card at the least!

  • opps, i read that wrong, the free game is only for those that activate the 3g thru at&t which i dont plan on doing, so i guess those of us that dont do the 3g plan get screwed even more….

  • @dilbig5.Yeah not everybody’s getting their Vita at GameStop like you are I can tell because the memory card price that you said the only place that has it for that price is GameStop I actually have to go to Best Buy to customer service to have then cancel my order then make sure the launch edition is still available then go to a cashier and preorder it

  • @snakeeyes211

Either way, the price of the 4gb and 8gb cards are only separated by $10.

  • Since Sony want to d*ck around early adopters I have my own plan. I’ll go preorder the launch bundle this weekend and keep my 1st edition bundle. I’ll pick up my 1st Edition Bundle on Feb 15th, play it for a week, return it for a full refund and then go pick up my launch bundle.

  • @pucebeata, yea, actaullys thats a good idea, lol. Exchange it for the system wiht the 8gb card, nice one!

if more poeple threating to do the same thing, maybe sony will change it so that first adoptdors will get teh better card and keep us happy. Maybe thats why it fell so bad in japan cause the people who got it on release date got better stuff then the week earlier people

  • @dilbig5 -base off you number I can go by a case for 20, the little deviance game for 30 = 50, get the launch bundle and only thing different would be the week early, but come launch day I would have everything First gave, but I would have gained 4gb more space. I just cancel my First Edition order, and went to amazon and got launch, got a case, and the little deviance game for 353 – $3 was for the release date shipping, so little Deviance come out on Feb 15 and I get it than, and I have to wait a week to use the system, but week early doesn’t make up for having a weaker card, if you plan to get 32GB from day one (not me) than doesn’t matter has 4GB or 8Gb will not mean anything. They need to fix this and make the first edition have a bigger card.

@Pucebeata – unless you getting a game beside what coming with first that might be a little hard as you have nothing to play, and if you open the little deviance game, they most likely not accept it back

  • @Nightmare_Lord : It’s a System Bundle…they would have to take it back. Kind of like if you bought a PS3 Bundle with a game. With the difference in Price I could buy my own game to go with the Launch Bundle (i.e. Uncharted). The case is not that big a deal since I already ordered a TPU case from Play-Asia…thus my Vita wouldn’t fit in the case that comes with the 1st Edition Bundle anyway. I also read that Deviants is a download and not a ‘pack-in’ so to speak… Bottom line is since I’m getting jerked around with I’ll get the best of both worlds. I’ll get the Vita a week early and still get the free 8GB card. The only one suffering will be Sony since they will have to credit the store for the return and loose out on selling a system to someone else. Small loss for them / No loss for me. If they put the 8GB card in the 1st Edition Bundle I wouldn’t have to do this, but since the store where I’m buying it is 2 miles from my job it’s really not that big of a deal to me.

  • @Nightmare_Lord

There’s no point in switching bundles if you’re gonna get what’s in the First Edition Bundle anyway.

  • @Pucebeata

If you open the box with the System and return it with nothing wrong with it, there is no way you would get a full refund. Especially if the Little Deviants that comes with it is just a code to let you download it. So you would just be wasting over $600 to have just one Vita.

  • dilbig5: If I take it back within the return period I get a full refund. No questions asked. I don’t need a reason. I could even simply say i don’t like it, I want the one for $300 instead, etc. I wouldn’t be wasting anything. To start with I had about $175 in store credit..so I only paid $175 in cash. I would do the return and then buy the launch bundle….so how would I be wasting $600? Return policies are pretty standard for electronics. As long as I bring it back with everything in tact the way I got it I’m good.

  • I realize the point is to get people on the 3G but it would be n ice to have something included with the launch day wifi bundle. Toss us a 4GB memory card or something “cheap.”

  • @436 I personally work retail and unless you know someone in the store you’re not getting a refund. Even IF you know someone you probably won’t get a refund. You just need to pick your bundle and stick with it otherwise you’ll be hurting in the end.

  • @poisonedsodapop: I’ve worked in retail in the past and I have also purchased and had to return many items (with and without receipt). You will absolutely not have any issue returning a game console bundle open or unopened. I don’t know if you folks are plants or not, but that is absolutely incorrect. I challenge anyone reading this to buy any video game console bundle and return it. There is no retailer that comes to mind that will give you an issue. I know for a fact Walmart, Best Buy, K-Mart, Sears, Target, etc will accept a return on ANY ITEM(besides Software, Video Games themselves & Music) within 7 days with a receipt. A console bundle that comes with or without software falls under the standard return policy. You are giving out false information if you say anything to the contrary.

  • @dilbig5 – their is a point, you failing to see now I get to have an 8gb card for the same price as First Edition over a 4GB and if it true the game that comes with First is downloaded one, that makes it even better, as I like to have hard c copy of a game, unless it only comes downloaded, or it better deal to get it downloaded.

@Pucebeata – that cool I never returned a bundle so just didn’t know if you could. I know since I do business at Gamestop lot and with their new protection plan for $3 on new games, I can use it to return even new games if their was a problem – and of course anything used can be return with no question. So yeah since I getting it released date from Amazon I just wait the extra week, works out as I never cared for it a week early just was getting the First for the memory card since the system only has around 512 built in.

  • @440 The store I work at you can’t return a new opened system there unless there’s an issue with it. Even if you return it and there’s an issue you get the SAME item back if possible. Honestly if you’re returning systems as defective just so you can pull one over on Sony that’s a pretty jerk move.

  • @442 – In my country if you don’t like a piece of hardware you can return it. If you find a better deal somewhere else you can return it to the first store and buy from the second. I already paid in full for my first edition bundle the day it was announced. Then they announce a new bundle that is 1. A much better deal & 2. I’m now paying EXTRA for a cheap case, smaller mem card and a tech demo(little deviants)……to me that was the jerk move, I’m just responding in kind.

By the way if the store you work at does business like that then I don’t see them doing much business. Not only that, the store can’t be a major retailer. It’s probably a specialty store, right? Even if it is that’s a pretty crazy return policy and your store would never have my business.

  • I think this is the best option. This is what an extra $50 will get you:
    3g Vita($300)
    8 gb memory card($30)
    Free PSN Game

The 3g by itself was $300.. Why would you buy the cheaper alternative when you can gain so much for so little?

  • yea, i pre-ordered the wifi bundle, i figure its cheaper with coupons i get and rz certificates that i can get a game i want and all htat stuff for 300.
I still have my first edition bundle pre-ordered, but if sony doesnt make it worth our whiles, ill just return the deposit and use it towards teh wifi

  • Thanks, John, for the info you’ve provided in the replies. It helps to know that the free month of 3G service is only available after paying for a month. I’ll wait on the wi-fi Vita after launch and won’t go for the 3G launch package. Also, I suspect that the lack of wi-fi packages has less to do with Sony, whom everyone is blaming, and more to do with AT&T. I have nothing against AT&T (it has my cell phone service), but I’m guessing that AT&T weighed in on pushing 3G package deals over the wi-fi only Vita. Most blogs and comments I read indicate a lack of interest in the connectivity advantages of a 3G Vita, so I can only guess that AT&T, not Sony, is behind the lack of wi-fi launch packages. Sony, after all, doesn’t really care whether you get a 3G/wi-fi or wi-fi only — it cares that you pick up a Vita. I’ll wait until Amazon or Best Buy offers a gift card/promotional credit with a wi-fi Vita, which I think will happen within a month or two of launch.

  • GameStop have a problem taking hardware that’s open that’s why I buy my hardware from Best Buy

  • And by taking I mean returning the product with the receipt if you don’t like the product within the allotted time just take it back to Best Buy and they will exchange it for store credit or your money back

  • The fact that people ignore the facts and post only negatively makes me want Feb 22nd to come so fast just to see how people will react then. If you pre-ordered the FEB and you think your getting screwed you can always cancel and pre-order another bundle. The case that comes with the FEB is a limited edition case. Maybe they packaged a 8GB memory card in with the standard 3G bundle because they get nothing else? I dunno, I just know it doesn’t matter to me because I’m getting a 16GB card anyway. Some of you all need to stop whining on something that’s an option, Sony added a 8GB memory card because people were complaining about needing one to play and the Vita not shipping with one and now you found something else to complain about…

  • Snake eyes, I couldn’t agree more! I buy my stuff from there also for the Reward Zone points. I went and pre-ordered the launch bundle today to make sure I have one. My FEB bundle was paid off the 2nd day it was announced. So this way I can get it a week early, enjoy the FEB bundle, return it and get the launch bundle plus Uncharted for the same $350.

  • So I know this is days late but people in my local area seem to be stupid about the subject so I’ll ask here hoping to get a reply. I know gamestop and Amazon are getting the 55$ bonus, my question is will Best Buy be getting it as well? moving the next day so I am hesitant to order it from offline and I refuse to shop at gamestop so to recap

Will Best Buy for sure be getting this bonus?

This is going to determine weather I reserve the 3G model or the wifi.
