Remember that recent big hit movie? …the one with the buildings that were all upside-down, catawampus, and kcabwards?… Yes exactly! THAT movie! ModNation Racers For PS3

This Week’s Top Tracks: PROJECT TIMESHIP
This is what happens when a great group of creative people get together…

“At some point in the 21st century, modkind, with the help of a vastly superior AI, finally discovers the means to travel through time. The only problem is the actual method is a little complex, involving building a huge timeship that has the ability to travel the speed of light in order to slingshot around the sun and break through a wormhole that has been discovered across the other side of our galaxy. Some of ModNations’ most esteemed track creators have been granted passage on the maiden voyage and each has chosen one particular period of Earth’s history (past or future). Hold onto your space hats ladies and gentlemen, it’s going to be one heck of a ride!”

  • will the vita have online mp support?

  • Not at launch, but will possibly be patched in later. It is still a day one purchase for me! Can’t wait to play :D

  • I’ll buy as long as multiplayer online is coming.
    & Hey Mark ..again
I finally seen the game goes up to 8 racers thankfully (AI wise of course). I was woundering how long are load times compared to the ps3 game, if you can give me a percentage like 50% the time etc.

  • I’ve read else that you can play PS3 tracks on this version. Does that mean the DLC from the PS3 version is included in Road Trip?

  • Do u know how much the memory size of the US downloadable version will be?

  • This will be my first game for the Vita. Can’t wait!

  • Congrats on your Hot Lap spot Mark! I’m so happy to have gotten on the list too! Thank you everyone!

I did have one question about the track creation tool on the Vita: How do you control the track’s elevation when you’re drawing it with the touch screen? Does it choose for you, or do you have to switch to driving the track in order to control the height?

    • Thank for the Kudos and congrats to you too! I was honored to be chosen in the Hot Lap rotation.

Actually track banking, height, etc.. is SUPER simple! If you look at the second image on this page … http://tinyurl.com/7hy5jrx you’ll see that it is as easy as touching the middle of the track and pushing up to raise or pulling down to lower the track.

  • I heard theres no online multiplayer support for this game! No purchase till this gets patched!

  • Is it an obligation to use the touch screen? such as when customizing the tracks and etc.

    • Most actions require the touch screen but they are very intuitive and allow quicker access to functions. I found them to be both powerful and time saving. Wait until you get to rotate your props. You’ll love it!

  • I looked at the back of the box and the pic on there also only had 4 racers. Can you confirm there will be more than 4 racers?

  • I’m interested in how the “trace mode” for track creation will work and I’d like to know whether MNR:RT will have the old way of creations which PS3 version has(not by touchscreen).

    • Hi lovelyblueness,

If you mean laying down your tracks then the answer is that you can trace using your finger or use the “drive track” feature as in the PS3.

  • AAAAND how is the online multiplayer coming? Are you working on it or still ‘considering’ it?

  • Will we be able to use our save from the console version of Modnation on the Vita version? And will any of the DLC from the console be unlocked from the start if we already bought it or do we have to unlock the way we would have to unlock other parts?

    • Hi Mist_Shark,

Sorry, no you will not be able to transfer over your save files but the MNR PS3 DLC (purchased or not) will be available from day one with some needing to be unlocked in Mod Explorer. :)

  • BEING A HUGE FAN (WELL NOT REALLY HUGE ENOUGH TO MAKE ALOT OF TRACKS,CHARACTERS OR RIDES BUT BIG ENOUGH TO LIKE THE GAME ALOT) IM VERY VERY DISSAPOINTED THIS AMAZING RACING GAME WONT HAVE ONLINE MULTIPLAYER..THIS IS AN EPIC FAIL ON BEHAVE OF SAN DIEGO STUDIOS ..SMH..YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO LOSE OUT ON ALOT OF MONEY.I HOPE FOR THE SAKE OF THE GAME AND THE COMPANY YOU GUYS WORK ON A PATCH OR SOMETHING TO ALLOW US LOYAL PLAYSTATION MODNATION RACING GAMERS TO COMPETE AGAINST ONE ANOTHER ON THIS NEW POWERFUL PORTABLE DEVICE! AKA PS VITA. AND THOSE ARE MY TWO CENTS..:/ ON THE BRIGHT SIDE THE GAME DOES LOOK AMAZING AND INTERESTING..GOOD ENOUGHT FOR A RENTAL :/

  • LOL! Ignoring the comments about online FTW! thats not a good sign. XD

  • @DarkOne_PR
they had a convo with a bunch of us on the issue already, and they’ve heard us and looking into doing it, and if they don’t after that. It would be sad

    @TooTall19
i noticed that too, and was worried, but if you go on YouTube ad search “Co ja gram: ModNation Racers: Road Trip”, his second race, he does a 8 player race on career mode, so you know it has, I think lack of showing for it was the default on quick race is 4. But even one trailer showed a guy in 5th place. but made me skeptical cause it was demonstration 5 people saying lets race and they all go and race

  • @DarkOne_PR I’m beginning to worry that there’s something they aren’t telling us about the Vita. Does it even have a fully implemented access to the PSN. Because it’s seeming more and more like the original PSP in the way that individual games had to create their own network code. That’s the only reason I can think for so many launch games just ignoring it.

I don’t even know anyone else who is buying the Vita. My only option for playing multiplayer is online or nothing.

  • Hey Mark, any news on a Japanese release date?

  • so Mark Wilson
why even post if you dont even answer the 1st post?

wow this vita stuff is not looking bright

  • @Daz_Genetic
that didn’t sound to smart. Seeing the Vita has more ability over PSN then even the PS3, how is that the case? This isn’t XBox, All games control there own servers, just like PS3. So far only 2 games, I expected to have online that didnt is this and Motor Storm and honestly, they did it smart on Motor Storm because the game doesn’t seem it has the kind of longevity, ModNation Didn’t because they did the wrong thing and looked at PSP stats for online usage for the MNR instead of looking at it as something entirely new. They said it’s something they are looking to add via a patch later on, plus it’s Launch Games Don’t expect perfections so early. Marvel Vs Capcom has online MP, BlazBlue has cross play with PS3 online, Street Fighter X Tekken OMP, Wipeout CP. hate when people that stupidness, I’m not happy bout it but I’m not going to become ignorant.

    @thelookey6
That same question was answered by him atleast 2 times in the past. Look at like 2 or 3 weeks ago, you’ll see, It’s redundant now.

  • @Teflon02
why would i search threw a 2 or 3 week old post
do u get payed to brown nose?

  • *seem like it has that kind of longevity (sorry rushed it lol)
*I hate when people act that stupid :P

  • As far as online multiplayer, they have not answered the question other than to say they are ‘researching’ the ‘possibility’ of a patch in the future. That was two weeks ago.

No news on the subject is definitely not good news…

  • Got my hands on the Vita and MNR Roadtrip today at my local Gamestop. First, MNR looks and plays great, definitely a PS3 experience in the palm of your hands but I am positively waiting to when/if it gets online multiplayer before it will be a purchase for me. Like many of you, I find no reason for the creation part of the game unless you have a way to show them off. I also would love to see a Modspot in the game as well but I doubt that would be feasible for a portable device.

  • Now for the Vita, I have a HUGE pet peeve! I thought Sony said they learned from the PSP, obviously not in some cases! While extra-glossy overlay on the screen looks great in dimly-lit areas or at night, all of you with PSPs know that they are horrible in the day when the sun is out! I cannot play my PSP while in the car unless it is at night or overcast, otherwise I am looking at a reflection of myself where the game should be! The Vita is exactly the same! Depending on how I held it in the store, all I could see at times were the fluorescent lights on the ceiling! What good is a portable device if you can only use it at night? Maybe it’s just me, but don’t most people travel during the day? Really questionable move by Sony…

  • a**holes like #20 need to be filtered from blog posts more thoroughly…

  • @3 Load times are still pretty lengthy, but not just on MNR, they were long on pretty much all of the game demos! I launched Top Spin 4 and I got tired of waiting so I put it down and looked at games and came back later to see it finally starting! So it appears that long loading times are the norm for the Vita.

  • @26 …which is probably why MNR:Road Trip has no online multiplayer. If you remember correctly, that was what was initially killing the PS3 version – the multiplayer load times.

That’s been my hunch all along actually. I really don’t expect any definite answer about online or to even see this game reviewed until after the game is released as, like I have said before, I am sure they are relying on some blind sales.

  • Hey, Mark!

Exactly how many ponytails do I need on my Mods for them to ever actually be considered for a ModNation Monday?

Just wondering, closing in on that 2 year anniversary and all. :D

  • I have this game per-ordered, but will cancel, due to the fact that there is no on-line support. Wow what a letdown. Once they patch the game like they say they are, I will re-think of buying the game. Sorry lost a customer….

  • Why are my comments always so long in being moderated?

  • a question, you could use the camera to take a picture and use it as a texture? in the track/car editor

  • I saw that video on youtube called co ja gram:Modnation Racers that proves that you have more than four AI on the track. You actually have eight! Modnation is making up for not having a online mode, an it has been comfirmed that a patch is being researched foe development. Look two Modnation Mondays back and starting on around comment 60-ish, Mark comfirms that a patch might be underway! I will buy on day one thanks modnation team!

  • Since you guys at playstation are supposedly working on a patch for online comp. play, I will trust the good on your promise and buy day one. Even if I dont get online multiplayer features day one, there is still

    The career mode
    The new mod studio
    The new kart studio
    THE NEW TRACK STUDIO
    Epic cart racing
    Touch screen controls
    Unlockable parts and props
Free access to the millions of PS3 creations
    PS3 like graphics and gameplay

So if you are a true fan of the series, do not count this game out. The people who made this game did not do it lazily, and I do think they care. We have to meet them halfway with our purchase of this game. Remember, no game is perfect, especially a new game on a new, yet-to-be-proven platform that is the PSVita. if you wont support this game that is fine, but dont ruin the fun for others. I’ll see your tracks and maybe your online racing skills in the coming weeks! Modnation FOREVER!

    • Check out thenoobinator50 keeping it positive! Thank you. :)
It’s community members like you that make this game and it’s community so special!

      – Mark

  • at 35 i have played the demo at the playstation lounge in NYC , its really , really good , now all we need is that online competitive multiplayer patch , anyways i will get the game on feb 15th to support the studio , wipeout cross platform play will entertain me while San Diego Studio work on the patch and i heard Unit 13 will coming 2 weeks after vita launch so i will get that too

    • Hi remanutd5,

We are really happy to see players like yourself getting their hands on a demo. We are stoked that you agree it looks great and plays great!

  • @28
Thanks for the info, my local gamestop (now ebgames) here on Canada hasn’t got demo models or it could be the dumb workers there who know nothing about games
    @34
Seeing that confirmed my buy for that game again asap, I was worried seeing 4 until I seen the guy on career doing a 8 player race. I was wondering if only I noticed before. But everything seems great so far and alot of work was put into it so I gotta support, because if no 1 buys the game they prolly be like no point adding online because no one bought the game. lol though sales would go up.
    @35
I applaud you with not even the slightest bit of sarcasm. We gotta support if we expect to get, and either way I’ll have this and rayman to complete 100% before going online anyways (like to finish games before going online) and hopefully I don’t get lag loses like some players on the ps3. The Hydra and thunderstorms never worked right once online, I assumed the thunder did everyone random times so you can’t block easy, but hydra literally would lag behind and without indicator BOOM -.- took my win percent to 40% or so.

  • I love modnation but i am but the vita versiin dissapointme a lot, no online multiplayer with friends

  • Hello fellow modnation racers modders, most of you do not realize something important.

IF NO ONE SUPPORTS THIS GAME AT LAUNCH, SONY WILL NOT FUND A PROJECT FOR ONLINE PLAY TO BE INCLUDED LATER AS A PATCH! IF YOU WANT THIS GAME TO SURVIVE INTO A SUCSESSFUL SERIES, YOU MUST SHOW YOUR SUPPORT. THAT IS WHY I AND OTHER ENLIGHTENED PEOPLE LIKE ME WILL NOT WAIT 6 MONTHS FOR A PRICE DROP, WE WILL BUY DAY ONE!

It has been comfirmed that there is eight racer gameplay( not four as suspected) and an online patch IS COMING if you show your support!

    Modnation Forever!!

P.S. do you think I should change my online I.D. ?

  • Hi Mark, thanks for the post and your continual responses it is much appreciated. Can you comment on whether or not an online multiplayer patch is still being discussed, any updates? If so do you think the patch could be confirmed/guaranteed before the game’s launch?

  • Just an update Feb 8th 2012: I have purchased Modnation Racers: Road Trip On PSN Digital: really looking forward to playing this game on my VITA. And looking forward to the coming patch, come on everyone we need to support this creative game that we all know and love. Feb 15th cant come any sooner.

Question: Can the story mode/Grand Prix be played local ad-hoc CO-OP with a friend?
