Resistance: Burning Skies – The Chimera Infect PS Vita This May

Derek Osgood's Avatar Posted by on Feb 13, 2012 // Associate Product Marketing Manager, Sony Computer Entertainment America

In case you missed our PS Vita video livechat today, PlayStation’s John Koller revealed an official release date for Resistance: Burning Skies. The Chimera will invade PS Vita on May 29, 2012, bringing you the world’s first portable dual-analog FPS.

Resistance has always boasted iconic visual design, and today we can reveal the Burning Skies box art — a freshly slain Hybrid lying on the streets of New York City with the protagonist’s fire axe resting in the rubble. We like to think it recalls some of the eerie essence of the classic Resistance: Fall of Man box art, but we’d love to hear what you think!

Resistance: Burning Skies pulls you into an entirely new dimension of the Resistance universe. Set in a tale of survival during the August 1951 Chimeran invasion of the East Coast, you take control of Tom Riley, an everyday firefighter from New Jersey who is thrown headfirst into the teeth of the Chimeran war machine, forcing him to redefine his notions of duty and heroism.

As most of you know, this is going to be the first ever dual-analog FPS game on a portable device, and has been built from the ground-up to take full advantage of the power of the PS Vita, including front and rear touchscreen controls. The touchscreen controls add a whole new dimension to the gameplay, delivering a powerful portable shooter experience. Never thought you’d play a console-quality shooter on a portable device? Game Director Harley Baldwin White-Wiedow has one thing to tell you: “TWO STICKS, baby!”

Now get out there and pre-order your copy today. Oh, and be sure to stay tuned in the coming months — we’ll have many more announcements to share soon.

This game is a must have

I may be alone in this, but R: Retribution was my favorite Resistance game, so I’m pretty excited that a new, portable entry into the series is just a few months away.
Now, if we can get release dates for LittleBigPlanet and Gravity Rush…?

+ obligonnation on February 13th, 2012 at 5:48 pm said:

Will get!! Awesome game, can’t wait!

+ Budapesti on February 13th, 2012 at 5:50 pm said:

Hmmm…. I’ve not seen any mention of multiplayer for this, so I’m wondering if it has online deathmatch too. I don’t usually care for multiplayer so it doesn’t make any difference to me, but surely it’ll do much better in sales if there’s an online element, I mean even the PSP resistance had one.
(Then again, the PSP Modnation Racers had online, too…)

+ dumbmanuel on February 13th, 2012 at 5:53 pm said:

is there any online multiplayer

+ moneyman1852 on February 13th, 2012 at 5:55 pm said:

I wouldn’t want to be that chimera in the picture

Death by ax doesn’t seem that fun

Will there be an ax in this game?

+ RE_Player on February 13th, 2012 at 7:09 pm said:

For those asking if the game will have online multiplayer look closely at the box. ” Online Interactions Not Rated by the ESRB” ;)

+ Teflon02 on February 13th, 2012 at 7:11 pm said:

Important question. Game trailers just said they had no memory card in the PS Vita they have and it still saved Uncharted Golden Abyss and they said that there is a bit of onboard memory, enough to save games but nothing else! Is this true or false? I gotta know (im getting a memory card but still need to know

+ jhaasl on February 13th, 2012 at 7:15 pm said:

So much to look forward to for my Vita. I absolutely cannot wait for this game! I also cannot believe that the release date is so close, very nice!

Day one purchase if it’s even half as good as the PS3 versions.

+ XFRod on February 13th, 2012 at 7:41 pm said:

@24 – Earlier videos have shown that your character is a member of the NYFD, the fireman’s axe is the first weapon you touch in the game.

+ CaptTM on February 13th, 2012 at 8:50 pm said:

Woot!!! I can’t wait for this game, and I love the box art too. =D

+ Berae on February 13th, 2012 at 9:00 pm said:

The box art is great!

+ Nates4Christ on February 13th, 2012 at 9:34 pm said:

That box art is scary. Weird how I literally before I just came to the site was playing resistance fall of man. I missed out in the series and have only played 2. Going to beet rfam then eventually play the psp game, maybe 2 again and 3. And hopefully when this one comes out I will have a vita. Needs a wifi bundle and assurance that great games will keep coming out before I get one though.

+ DoTheKiller91 on February 13th, 2012 at 10:32 pm said:

Still sad that Insomniac dosen’t care about Resistance anymore. Best bet would be to give the franchise to Guerilla Games imo.

+ BeatsByThePound on February 13th, 2012 at 10:36 pm said:

Can wait to purchase a vita soon

+ DarkOne_PR on February 13th, 2012 at 11:21 pm said:

WOW! great work on the box art! not like the one from resistance 3 which was mediocre…. the game was good thou! Anyways… PLS FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!! dont forget to put Multiplayer on this baby! 4 vs 4 TDM and 8 players deathmatch at least ok? LOVE RESISTANCE FRANCHISE! it was the one who make me an FPS gamer.
Even thou i still love JRPGs more than any other genre :)

+ Rick1220 on February 13th, 2012 at 11:29 pm said:

Yes, but will it actually have multiplayer?

+ Ethereal on February 13th, 2012 at 11:43 pm said:

Awesome artwork. Looks like I am going to be preordering this bad boy!

+ Viewtiful_Josh on February 14th, 2012 at 2:24 am said:

I think the box art looks cool, but it would be cooler if it had the fireman (the main character) on the background looking away from the creature, into the “burning skies”, with the axe on his shoulder as it drips blood off its tip. The gun would then replace the axe, from the current box art, with damages as though the main character had destroyed a technological weapon with a simple man-made tool. :D

An idea.

+ dreddi1 on February 14th, 2012 at 3:05 am said:
