The Drop: Week of April 16th 2012 New Releases

Taking advantage of some of PS Vita’s unique hardware features and bringing exclusive content, Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention brings two new characters, new story chapters and quests, new bosses, and new unique GPS positioning functionality. Also on PS Vita as a PSN release, StarDrone Extreme puts you in the pilot seat of an always-in-motion spaceship through 60 diverse cosmic environments, where you’re tasked to survive, destroy, and collect items.

Dropping this week in the form of a full PS3 digital download is Dead Rising 2: Off The Record, which sees Willamette survivor and photojournalist Frank West take center stage as players experience a very different interpretation of events in this re-imagining of the Fortune City outbreak. Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

PlayStation Vita

Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention (Also on PSN) — Disgaea 3 is a sequel to Disgaea, a hardcore, turn-based strategy RPG. The game follows the exploits of Mao, the most honored student at Evil Academy, a school where the tardiest, laziest, and rudest demons receive the highest marks. The son of the school chairman, Mao has never once attended class nor opened a textbook. He longs to overthrow his father and assume the title of Overlord, which he decides he must become a hero to achieve. Join him on his zany adventure filled with witty dialogue, exciting events, and thrilling strategy battles.

PlayStation 3

Deadliest Warrior: Ancient Combat — Based on the Spike TV series that pits two of the most feared warriors civilization has ever known against each other, Deadliest Warrior: Ancient Combat combines two explosive Deadliest Warrior games — Deadliest Warrior: The Game and Deadliest Warrior: Legends — into one package, and also adds a huge arsenal of additional weapons and features found only on this Blu-ray disc.

  • Deadliest Warrior: The Game — Players can choose from history’s greatest warriors, equip them with signature weaponry, and go head to head against the greatest fighters that ever lived. Sever limbs, decapitate foes, and taunt your enemy’s lifeless corpse to build up ranking points and compete on a global scale to become “The Deadliest Warrior.” The game features five play modes, customizable warrior, and true-to-life action with interactive environments.
  • Deadliest Warrior: Legends — In Deadliest Warrior: Legends, take control of history’s greatest warriors and face the likes of Alexander the Great, Attila the Hun, Genghis Khan, Hannibal, Hernan Cortes, Shaka Zulu, Sun Tzu, Vlad the Impaler and William Wallace. With enhanced graphics and nine arenas, new fighting options like grapples, pushes, ring outs, feints, projectile targeting, and new final strikes will expand your tactical options. Also included is a new strategy game called Generals! Players take control of the Battlefield Simulator from the TV show and play one of the nine legendary warrior campaigns and unlock abilities that the actual warriors used to get an edge in battle.

PlayStation Network

NHL 12 (Full PS3 Game) — Experience a fresh new look and feel with all new gameplay presentation, and, for the first time ever, the chance to lace up outdoors under the lights in one of the biggest hockey events of the season, the NHL Winter Classic at Pittsburgh’s Heinz field. This year will be the first to see dynamic goalies in the game; players can knock the net off and make contact with goalies, knocking them down or out of position, as they crash the crease. Watch as goalies fight through screens to make awe-inspiring saves and leave the crease to trade punches with hated rivals during fights.

StarDrone Extreme (PS Vita) — StarDrone is a perfect blend of high-speed physics and pinball action, with strategic elements of break-out and object collection. But this is no walk amongst the stars, as the Drone is always in motion in the zero gravity environment, and the more stellar matter collected, the faster it travels until it is careening across the screen at light speed. Gather enough momentum and enter into Comet Rush where the Drone is impervious to all enemies and obstacles.

Dead Rising 2: Off The Record (Full PS3 Game) — Dead Rising 2: Off The Record sees Wilamette survivor and photojournalist Frank West take centre stage as players experience a very different interpretation of events in this, a reimagining of the Fortune City outbreak.

This alternate storyline means an-all new Dead Rising 2 experience; with Frank facing new missions, new enemies, new combo-weapons with which to defeat them plus a brand new Fortune City attraction to explore. Complimenting the new narrative and action of Dead Rising 2: Off The Record are enhancements to elements such as the save system and the co-op experience to deliver more satisfying gameplay.

The House of the Dead 4 — Slap in a clip and prepare for an onslaught of terror in The House of the Dead 4! Set three years after the second game, the fourth game in the shoot-em-up series featuring House of the Dead 2’s protagonist James Taylor as well as new hero Kate Green, working together to battle untold horrors from beyond. In addition to the run-and-gun-down-creatures gameplay players had come to know and love, the game fully supports PlayStation Move.

  • How about a working Flickr app, even post update flickr account users can’t view their own pics when signed in on their accounts, crashes every time. Those same pics, when viewed from the contact list on someone else’s account, work. Made a dummy account and added my real account as a contact, worked.

  • In come on i pay for 50 psp games i can still get all them on my vita the only psp games that on psn is the suck ones how i no people is still ask for rest of them. if the ps vita can play ps2/ps1 games along with psp they will get more money. In we still got no youtube in the uk psn is geting so much stuff be for us like my friend was play socom ftb3 from psp on his ps vita im like what weeks in weeks how past and i still can play socom ftb3. hop they fix all this be for E3

  • How about some organization for the download list in the store? That’s a major issue when you’ve been on PSN for years and purchased a lot of content.

Also looking forward to full PSP/PS1/mini support on my Vita. I’m pretty sad that this STILL isn’t in place. And Skype, I’d love some Skype on there! I’ve been trying to give you guys time but it feels like you guys are taking your time with these things. What about the huge April update we were getting? All we got were two firmwares, one that broke something and one that fixed the same something.

  • I’d really love a “What’s Coming” feature in the Playstation Store. Something that showcases upcoming games for the year or something. Also, the PSN store should have pics or vids of every title that’s out or is coming out.

  • someone mentioned earlier about not being able to sort games. why oh why is there no option to sort my list of 100+ items, alphabetically? I am OCD and it gets on my nerves. Alphabetical sorting is like the most common way of organizing things, yet there’s no alphabetical function to list our games. I really do not understand how it is too much work for you guys to fix in an update.

  • a ” coming soon ” ( for games and upcoming firmware features) would be sweet.. please pass this up the ladder Rey.. a update on a Gravity Rush demo would be great too.. Thanx for all you do..

  • I would love to see more PS1/PS2 games and, as other people have already said, a feature that lets you see a list of games soon to be released to the PSN Store. Is there any news yet on when exactly “Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock” will be released?

  • Doctor Who will be released April 30th

  • Wow, Rey responded to some comments. Are you OK Rey? Now that Rey is functioning maybe Nick Suttner can announce the bounty of great PSN games he has been accruing for our enjoyment this year through his diligent networking with indie devs. If you need some help Nick check out the list I collated on the PS forums.

  • House of the Dead 4 for me!

Any news about fixing the Playstation App on the Facebook website?

  • Can you put more PS2 classics on the store? BloodRayne 2, Stuntman 1, past EA Sports games, anything.

  • and what about SAINTS ROW THE THIRD – 4/17??

  • paypal to buy psn content is a good idea, especially for international customer like myself. Rey….or Morgan…pleasse make it happen

  • Will there be any Playstation 1 and/or Playstation 2 releases on the PSN anytime soon? I’ve been dying to play Tomba again for the past few months, but the price is around $60 on Amazon. I hear it’s on the Japanese store, why not the US store?

  • I’m in total agreement with ZERO_169 about sorting games easier… I know you can sort it by recently played and creation date but… really? You cant sort it by title? I mean isnt that kinda the most basic method of sorting anything? Alphabetically? If theres some reason you cant do that how about letting us do it manually?

  • @30

    1. There’s nothing wrong with the one already there.
    2. There is already one.
    3. There’s already some and there’s something called Playstation Home.
    4. Why would you want that? Free online is one of the Playstation’s selling features. Cut that out and there goes the majority of PSN users.
    5. Cross game chat is on Vita but not really needed, all those things can be used on the internet browser, and so can those video providers.

  • @64

You can already sort them by title

  • Downvoted purely because the article opened with PS Vita offerings instead of PS3, which is the bulk of the user base.

  • @11 (ZERO_169)

as gm914 said, it is possible to organize all your games and demos in folders, i just realized it a few months ago, but i bet 99% of the users don´t know (cause they keep asking for it)

    example

press triangle on modnation racers, select “album” or “folder” write “racing” , then select need for speed, do the same, now press square until you get your stuff organized in albums.

    i have this folders

    ps1
    ps3 full games
    minis
    move
    racing
    puzzle
    demos
    etc….

  • Come on Sony. When is Rock of Ages going to be released on PSN. I’m tired of waiting. I’ll give it another month before I buy it on the other console. They’ve already released it last August. :(

  • IMPORTANT:

Contact Neversoft, request that they make a PS Vita port of Tony Hawk HD! This would be an AWESOME VITA GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please do this and I’ll promote the vita rather than complain about how much it lacks!

  • I’m still wondering when we will get a flash player that supports are youtuber habits.

  • Can you comment yet on Psone on Vita (and hopefully PS2 as well)?
Thanks for answering the first posters Skype question. The Vita desperately needs as many apps as possible. In this day and age even forgiving gamers like myself need more and the scarcity of apps and games at this point on the store is in my opinion inexcusable.
I LOVE my Vita and feel it is so much better than other handheld gaming experiences. Sadly most people will move on if the dry spell lasts.
    Don’t use Nintendo excuses! :)

Thanks again for the answers you do give.
Sony needs to make a much bigger effort to reach out and listen to it’s community and then answer.

As for requests, please add the ability to sort download history.
Having over 1,000 items downloaded and most of them games and dlc is a big pain when something needs to be redownloaded.

  • ….still waiting on Doctor Who The Eternity Cloak..

It’s been pushed back one already and the release day is still “April” and not we are getting to the last weeks of April without news.

  • Upvoted purely because the article opened with PS Vita offerings which is the hot new item.

  • Idk about the Flicker app but, how about a flash player for the vita so we can start enjoying youtube ya :)

  • Happy for the new PSN gamesTHNX:P, But that’s all fine and dandy, but when is FF XII coming to PSN? if it ever is? and how about SHIN MEGAMI: Nocturn? can we get just a little bit more form these DROPS?:P

  • Super excited for Disgaea 3 to get here in the mail. <3 NISA

  • Man! I want a Vita but I still want to see some more JRPG’s and new IP’s that really make use of the features… and a Monster Hunter for Vita, that would be a day one purchase for me. I hope they pop up sometime this year, or at least around the Vita Slim that will inevitably release down the line

  • Got Disgaea 3 coming from NISA as well. I am just playing 4 while I wait, still having a blast though. :) Only thing I would like to see more of, is PS Vita demos!

  • Hey Sony, my birthday is Friday…wanna gift me Disgaea? :3

  • In regards to an earlier comment regarding organizing game lists for the PS3, I would like to state a specific addition I feel is best needed – organization by ABC order. One of the most basic ways to arrange your downloaded games and yet it’s not an option, why? I have everything separated into their respective folders, but I can’t organize any of the games within them by title order.

As for other game suggestions: why the lack of love for the Tomba series? Those definitely need to make a return on PSN.

  • Contra Shattered Soldier and Gunner’s Heaven as a Japanese import. Pretty please!!!

  • Dear Trolls,

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Sony owes you nothing. You are not entitled to anything.
They have given you a powerful console, and a powerful handheld gaming system with a free online service.
I’m confounded by the fact that everything is amazing, and nobody is happy.
When the PSP launched, it had 3 features. Games, video, and music. All of the other features came later. Skype, an rss reader, comic books, Sense Me, internet browser, Remote Play, Internet Radio, Location Free Player, PSN Store, Bluetooth, I could go on.
Sony made “promises”, but these things take time.
Quit wasting comment board space asking for features. (There is a space elsewhere on the blog for that.)

P.S. Proof read your post before you send it, so you don’t look like a bunch of morons.

  • When you say “PS+ Discounts and &FREE games soon” … HOW soon? cause the selection of discount has been bland lately, I can’t complain much cause even if its bland to me, others would rejoice, but a few discount on games like MAGIC 2012, a few classic shooters like 1942, and other great ones. I maybe asking to much, but just letting my opinion out there.

Also, I suggested in the IDEA blog, about having some of the clothing parts separated, like if i bought a gun or sword for the waist, it DOESNT count as a hand item, that way i am free to customize more!, also it be nice if we bought a weapon, be it to have it on the waist or back, to be able to activate it for a poses or for a (R1) action.

  • @80,

    Well said

  • @67 No you cant… or if you can I dont see how. Under my game folders>sort by I have 3 options. Creation date (Ascending) Creation date (Descending) and recently played. No title.

  • How many GB will Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention be?

    Thanks

  • May I ask… Why doesn’t Sony own Disgaea as in sign a exclusive deal? It is a great franchise in a genre that isn’t populated, and even better everyone knows Disgaea is the best tactical RPG hands down

  • I’m going to start a suggestion through comments.
Dark Cloud 1 & 2 for Vita and PS3, or better yet Dark Cloud 3. Call Level-5 and make it happen. Dark Cloud 2 is my all time fav game and i have my ps2 game still but no bc ps3 or ps2 :( I just want to play on the go. I’d gladly pay for 2 more copies (if they came out for psv and ps3) make it happen,
oh yeah and LBP Vita news?
and LBPK for Vita, make it happen :), wouldn’t be smart not to

  • ms allow you guys to put skype on psvita?

please add it on the ps3 as well :)

  • Where is this house of the dead 4? you said that the full game unlock would be out on the 17th but I don’t see it in the store yet.

  • It would also be neat if house of the dead 1&2 would also be on here. It would be nicer to play house of the dead 2 for ps3 in stead of my wii.

  • @84, thanks. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

  • I wish this would in clued weekly DLC.

  • Medieval Madness and Bride of Pin*Bot for Pinball Arcade? It came out yesterday for iOs, I’m hoping if not this week it comes out very soon. Medieval Madness is one of my all time favorites.

  • When can we expect new PSP title compatibility for the Vita? I really want to play Pixel Junk Monsters Deluxe on it. It has been working in JP since launch. What’s the delay?

  • Dr Who on vita, any ideas when it will be released?

Also, MLB the show, on Vita.

Is there anyway to bet this in the UK? Or do i have to get it from the US?

  • Ah, Disgaea 3, complete with its fifty bucks worth of PS3 DLC.

Anyway, I would like to chime in with the request for more sorting options on PS3 (primarily alphabetical), on PSP (such as the ability for content to rearrange/be rearranged at all), and the PlayStation Store (such as alphabetically, by product, by type, and a search option*).

And considering this is The Drop, I’d love to see Castleavnia: Lament of Innocence and Castlevania: Curse of Darkness show up here as PS2 Classics.

*I would also love a “Show content unavailable on Store”, for finding my download-list-exclusive stuff.

  • Disgaea 3 is awesome. I’m enjoying it. I sure would like an easy way to transfer my PSP game saves to my Vita. It would be great to have all the games in the Disgaea family on one memory card.
