When Vikings Attacks for PS3 and PS Vita

Hey folks, I’m here today to announce a new PSN title coming this year! I’m very excited to introduce When Vikings Attack for PS3 and PS Vita.

In this all-action fighting adventure, a battalion of Viking invaders, 1200 years late to the party, are causing havoc in your town. Imagine getting together a posse of local citizens: a construction worker, a butcher, a policeman, a pastor, and a schoolboy, then ripping up a phone booth or picking up a car,and hurling it at the advancing Viking hordes. That’s the sort of crazy action you can expect in this totally new and original PSN title for PS3 and PS Vita.

Grab whatever you can and get ready to do battle!

Prepare Yourself for When Vikings Attack

Featuring both adventure and Versus gameplay modes that can be played with one to four players, the game has been winning fans within the walls of PlayStation with its manic, quick-fire gameplay ever since it came into being.

Did I mention that it’s also a full cross play/save/buy title? So all gameplay modes can be played between PS Vita and PS3 in pretty much any combination you can imagine: two PS3s and two Vitas or one PS3 and three Vitas or one PS3 with three players and one Vita… I could go on but let’s just say you can have four players in any combination of systems you want. Also, with cross-platform save you can carry on your Adventure mode progress no matter where you are, just upload the save file from your PS3 and download it to your PS Vita or vice versa. Then to top it all off and make this the perfect Crossplay game, we are also offering both versions for one price, no matter which version you buy you will get the other for free… a pretty good deal, if you ask me!

I’ll be back in the coming weeks along with some of the guys from Clever Beans (the development team behind the game) to introduce you to even more features and let you in on some behind-the-scenes details of how the title came into being and what you can expect when it launches later this year.

Post any questions you have in the comments and I’ll endeavor to answer whatever I can. Thanks and good day!

  • Holy god… It looks fun!

  • looks alot of fun

  • love the design of the characters! Hope it launches sometime soon!

  • Vikings are sooooo under-rated!! Thanks for the news, Neil! And thanks to Clever Beans on the project… any chance on a Summer release?

  • Nice to have more ‘buy once and get it on both’ games. Looks fun indeed.

  • Gotta love all these Vita news!

  • Awesome game to play with friends! I’m glad to see them taking advantage of the cross-platform capabilities.

It reads like four players can play through the adventure mode. Does this mean four-player co-op?

  • I’m not sure if I’m sold on the game yet but I love the fact that the developers are really working towards every form of cross play integration they can.

    Take notes other developers.

  • Looks like a lot of fun. And any game where I can purchase and play on my vita against my daughters on the ps3 is priceless. Im sold!!!

  • Release date? Looks fun.

  • Looks like crazy dodgeball

  • Thanks for the post Neil.

Game looks like a lot of fun and it’s also Cross Platform, another bonus !

Hopefully all these new Vita announcements will keep the whiners happy for a while.

No problem, it is a lot of fun… OK I’m biased but hopefully post E3 there will be lots of hands on previews to back it up!

  • So what does VITA not have again? This is about the forth or fifth game announced recently for the VITA and it isn’t even E3 yet.

  • This game looks like so much fun!

  • sweet jebus

  • Those townspeople obviously weren’t using Capital One, otherwise they wouldn’t have to worry about being pillaged.

  • I like the concept because there haven’t been many games like this one that allow for more than two players to duke it out.

One hope for this is game is that it includes DLC characters/maps from other PS exclusive games that would fit right in to this mechanic like Patapons, LBP Sack People, and others I may be forgetting!

It would be pretty fun to have the Helgast army invade right? :D

No plans right now but you never know!

  • SCE! Stop it! Stop making all these Vita AND PS3 games! For gods sake there’s even rumors that All Stars is going to the Vita as well. What is wrong with you? The Vita needs exclusives, not ports. You tried the same port thing with the PSP and it FAILED MISERABLY! Learn from your mistakes for god’s sake! Make exclusive games for the Vita designed around the Vita and PS3 exclusive games designed around the PS3.

I know it seems like an easy way to fill out the Vita software lineup, but this is not the way to go. Ultimately this will only hurt the Vita. And as an owner, I want to see it succeed.

So please stop. Invest in new IPs and exclusive games like Gravity Rush and Sound Shapes. Invest in software you can only play on the Vita and nowhere else. Because if you don’t, you’ll just run it into the ground again…

  • I can see this being fun for a bit in 4 player offline vs. Seems like it could be a minigame in a Wii collection though so don’t know if I’ll purchase.

  • DO WANT! And I’m totally digging the cross-play. Getting both versions at once is great, and I hope that sets a precedent for the future cross-play games. It will make it easy to utilize those features, as opposed to games that will require the player to shell out twice.

  • @ Enigma777. So how are they supposed to implement cross functionality if they don’t make games for the PS3 and the VITA? The point of the VITA is portability that you can play one copy of it on your PS3 and take it anywhere. Stop saying that if you can play it on your PS3 you wouldn’t want it on the VITA. That doesn’t make any sense. A handheld is portable. THAT is the point. If you don’t want to go portable then you never wanted the VITA in the first place. Not all games will be that way but some of them have to be or the cross functionality function will be for nothing and people will start the ‘what happened to the cross functionality I paid’ for speeches. The VITA is not the PSP so stop looking for problems and rejoice that we are getting more and more games

  • Compare to xbox 360. Xboxers hate on ps3 because of all the updates. Well, Xbox rarely gets updates. But Xbox only gets about 5 games a month on xbox live. Realize it people. Playstation is puttin out stuff all the time. I’ll take the damn uploads. This was my epiphany.

  • they should of get state farm lol :). the game look great btw

  • @ cosmis_chaos:

Cross-play is not the point of the Vita, merely a feature. And you don’t need to port the same game for it to work either. See Wipeout 2048/HD as an excellent example of how to do it properly without sacrificing either experience.

And no, I will not rejoice about the announcement of more and more Vita port jobs (Sly 4 being the latest victim). That’s not what I want and I believe that’s not what the market wants either.

Neil, I’m sorry to have taken this off-topic. Your game seems very nice and I’m looking forward to hearing more about it.

  • @ Enigma777. Well that is why you are just the guy posting on a website and they are the giant cooperation. What you believe the market wants is not necessarily what it does. I don’t pretend to know what everyone wants and you shouldn’t either.Just because you don’t want it doesn’t mean that there aren’t others who do. That is the difference between fact and opinion which most gamers seem to get mixed up with.

  • You’re right about one thing. I don’t know what the market will ultimately decide. None of us do. But the market spoke once with the PSP and I’m afraid the Vita is heading down the same rabbit hole. The difference is that this time the prospects of dedicated handhelds are much more grim than 6 years ago thanks to the rise of mobile gaming.

Hell just look at the Vita’s sales. Less than 10k per month in Japan and not much better abroad.

Tell me, what’s the incentive for people to buy a Vita when they could play the exact same games on their PS3s? Portability is not a good enough reason, because we’re not that kind of culture. This isn’t Japan. Most people don’t spend hours a day riding a train. And the ones that do aren’t enough to sustain the market. Why should they put down $250 for a slightly subpar experience?

Without original software the Vita will die. No matter how you slice it, that is a fact.

  • This looks like a blast. I hope that there is more to it to extend play, but it does look like a lot of fun.

  • Niel,

    Is this a PlayStation exclusive?

  • Game looks really fun! And i always make it a point to reward all developers who supports the Buy-1-Get-Both initiative :)

  • Wow i think its a good game. can anyone tell me how many stages its has and is it online playable too?

  • CaptainHuggyface

Looks like PoyPoy in the video, I loved that game and have been waiting for someone to launch it as a PSOne Classic but this is better… updated, new modes, online play.
    Looking forward to it.

  • Looks really nice! What will be the price? Will PS+ have a rebate?

    Thanks!

  • Nice futuristic 4 player game we have going on here! The action is just over the top and very competitive.

    Thanks for the preview Neil!

  • Please do more of these deals where you get both. It only makes sense to do it for the PS3 and Vita.
