Class of Heroes II to Release this Fall for PSP

MonkeyPaw Games strives to bring you excellent content from Japan. Today we’re announcing the anticipated digital download release of Class of Heroes II on the PlayStation Network. The digital release, playable on PSP and PS Vita, will give users a chance to play the game with a beautifully localized adaptation, care of our partners at GAIJINWORKS. The game is set to debut this fall.

The game is a charming take on the Wizardry-style dungeon crawl games with a twist – all the party members are drawn from a pool of newly-enrolled students at a Sword and Sorcery School. It features 10 classes to choose from: Novice, Fighter, Swordsman, Ranger, Monk, Ninja, Sorcerer, Puppeteer, Idol, and one Mystery Class. Once the party is created, quests are offered and the party can choose their adventure path, unlocking ever more distant and dangerous areas to conquer as they grow in power and confidence.

Monster parties can be more than one level deep in a single combat episode, leading to epic encounters of up to 12 or more monsters at a time, where managing a party’s ranged and melee skills can be the difference between victorious life and an ignominious death. There are over 200 dungeon maps and more than 100 monsters to conquer as the story unfolds.

The school that serves as a base of operations is populated with professors and staff that can be helpful, mysterious, or provide comic relief – like the Professor of Alchemy and Cosplay, Giorgio.

Class of Heroes II for PSP

Class of Heroes II makes full use of PSP’s wireless capabilities, enabling players to swap items with friends who also have the game and have their PSP in wireless range.

Japanese RPGs have a strong following in North America and Europe as we’ve discovered with our stable of hit PSN releases such as Vanguard Bandits, Alundra and the Arc the Lad series. These games had a common thread in that Working Designs was the North American publisher and localization house. Their reincarnation has brought us into contact with Victor Ireland and GAIJINWORKS and we’re pleased to have them working with us on this game as well. Fans of their work will feel right at home with the charming, engaging localization and characters in Class of Heroes II.

We hope everyone has a chance to play Class of Heroes II, as its rejuvenated release is streamlined with a more robust experience. We believe our fans will appreciate how the game has elevated and what a premium localization can do for a deep game like this. It is a pleasure to be a part of this effort and to have our stamp on a series that will attain the same plateau of excellence in the West as it has in Japan.

  • Sweet! I hope it’s at least between $14.99-$19.99.

  • Yes! I fully support your struggle to make JRPGs matter again. We can do it together!

  • I wasn’t a fan of the first class of Heroes but i’l get this for JRPG support and hopes of New Class of Heroes:Time Academy.

  • Hikaru_Kazushime

Happy to see JRPG’s on the PSP are still alive!

  • It would be great if someone decided to bring Malicious to the States…

  • where is the playstation plus june update infos?

  • i’m not big on first person dungeon crawlers.however, just the fact that this looks funny and it involves gaijinworks and monkeypaw its a must buy for me.

with that said,i have a couple of questions about this game… will this game have any dubs on it? does it have level caps or can you grind to your heart’s content??

hope that this game will come with a witty dialogue and fun jokes

  • *cough*Vita*cough*

  • So the kickstarter was a success huh? Great news then. Hope it’s vita compatible

  • @6,
You’re posting in the wrong place. This is about a PSP game.

Ten races? That’s cool. Looks like there’s a lot of character customization options.

It would be nice to if this and all PSP digital release games were $20 and under and available on the Vita, as there are some PSP games, like that one, that I would like to try.

  • can’t wait. usually don’t like first person, dungeon crawler rpg’s but this and the one xseed is handling are right up my alley, ’cause they remind me of stuff like SHining & the Holy Ark or Phantasy Star 1 :D

  • #9 – I’m afraid the Kickstarter wasn’t a success. The goal was pretty lofty but, so was the collector’s edition they were trying to put out. Shame, I’m a sucker for plushies.

However, this is a first day buy. CoH II is a MUCH better game than the original. Then again, any import title Monkey Paw Games brings over is a first day purchase. So many great Japanese titles have never seen the light of day in the states and, I vow to purchase any they bring over. Sure, I’ve played and own many of the titles they’ve brought us (import frequently) but, future releases rely on previous results… Feel free to read that as, “We make money off these titles, we can bring more out in the future.”

Besides, MPG is my only hope to ever see a US PSN release of a riichi (Japanese mahjong) title. Come on, Monkey Paw Games…… Make my riichi dreams come true. So many came out on the PS & PS2, I’d wager getting the rights to publish one of them wouldn’t even be that costly.

  • Awesome, more JRPG PSP/Vita love! Now, will someone please localize the JRPGs that the Vita has gotten in Japan but haven’t made it stateside? Can’t wait for Persona 4 and FFX HD, but keep ’em coming!

  • Just let the PSP die before the VITA does.

  • PSP still has life left number 14#; :) Vita won’t be dieing out any time soon. :)

  • @14

Or they could support both. How about that?

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! /dances

  • @favian

The Kickstarter was for a physical release of the game. The game was still going to be released on the PSN regardless.

  • YES!!!!! I have been playing the first class of heroes on and off for a few years now! It was on my PSP3000 and now i have it on my Vita. I can’t wait for this!!! I am so glad you are localizing it. I love dungeon crawlers, roguelikes and all forms of rpgs in general. But being there from the start of the wizardry and Might and Magic series, makes gives me an intense sense of nostalgia and longing for games like these. Unfortunately the west has all but forgotten about traditional turn based AD&D mechanic rpgs and only cares about production values, dialog trees and shooters in a space setting…bleh.. So when I here about this, I am really happy, really happy! I will be buying and playing this on vita day 1!!!!

(now its kinda strange we get psp games from smaller devs but large publishers like Square won’t bring their final fantasy agito game to the west and sega won’t bring valkyria chronicles here either. If only someone would also localize those!)

  • Ill buy it. was a fan of the first game and will gladly support/buy this one. cant wait!

  • Nice!! Being compatiable with the Vita is icing on the cake. Will be there day one! Thank you MonkeyPaw!!!

  • Surprised there are still PSP games coming out. Since the death of the PSP has not stopped games being ported….
    Where is:
    Final Fantasy Type-0,
    Fate/ EXTRA CCC,
    Black Rock Shooter,
and some other JRPG’s/games that were picked up, that seem to be dead in the water now?
    The questions are rhetorical obviously.

Spent 30 hours on the first Class of Heroes, throwbacks to Eye of the Beholder are nifty, but their long lasting appeal is not present with most.

  • I like that they arnt leaving the Psp just yet, and if you have moved on to the Ps Vita, you can probobly just get this game aswell through PS-Store! Sweet!

  • Had I known there was a Kickstarter for a retail release I would have supported it. Oh well… looks like Atlus is the only one left releasing retail PSP games, and I’ve had both preordered for ages.

@8: This plays on the Vita too… I don’t know why people have issues with this. It’s a new game for NA audience regardless of whether you play it on PSP or PS Vita. The developers didn’t create this game on PS Vita, so don’t whine to a publisher about the platform it was on. Especially when the release will let it be played on Vita too.

    I mean… sheesh~

  • This looks fun but, Its about time for a good rpg on vita…. Gravity rush just wont cut it. I mean the game play is fun but we need something up to par with final fantasy. Or at least ad tales of graces f to vita format. I have had my vita sins 1st edition came out and there are no games to tern heads for at all. I use the damn thing as a netflix player for cryin out loud. SO PLEASE start on a GOOD rpg for vita!!!

  • @ArchAngelMai,

PSP is not dead and still being sold and supported well in Japan. Sales of PSP are still high in asia. I don’t see PSP support stopping for a few years.

    @MonkeyPaw

Thank you. Please bring as many of the RPG titles as you can for PSP to North America. We have had a good influx and I’ve been enjoying the PSP for many months and hope to continue.

  • I love what MonkeyPaw and Gaijinworks are doing and will buy this to further their cause of keeping JRPGs alive in the West.

  • not sure If I will pick this one up. We will see.

  • islankleinknecht

Oh boy! I cannot wait to play all the one-round battles in Class 2 O.F. Heroes!

  • Hikaru_Kazushime

Awesome! I really enjoyed the first one.
