It’s been quite a week for PlayStation Plus since the last time we chatted. Earlier we announced that Plus will be coming to PS Vita and that it will also be getting an upgrade in Online Game Save storage (from 150MB to a beefy 1GB). Borderlands would be a awesome addition for me if I already didn’t have the GOTY version. To those that haven’t played it before: Avoid playing with randoms since some might have hacked weapons. Try to find legit people to play with in the forums or through your friends list.
With that said, I plan to buy Spelunker HD since I’m a fan of Spelunky on XBLA
I’m glad that we’re getting Borderlands instead of Red Dead Redemption or Dead Space 2 since I already own those games, so I can’t complain much. For the people that are complaining the games are fairly cheap. Why not just go out and get them instead of sitting around with your fingers crossed just hoping they’ll be coming to plus.
If I wanted to play a game bad enough, I wouldn’t sit around hoping it well came months down the line when I can just easily go out and get that game or buy it from the PS Store.

I had a free trial of Plus recently & liked it so much that I decided to stay on (at least for 3 more months).
I’ve gotten to play some games I never would have played without plus. Either because I didn’t think they were my cup of tea or I didn’t have the money, like Lara Croft, Pac-man, Outland, Walking Episode 1 & 2 and Ratchet & Clank: All4One. Big R&C fan, but didn’t think that one was for me. When I saw it on plus, decided to download it. So happy I did. Fun game!

Can’t say I’m interested in the Dust beta or Borderlands though, but hoping for some cool stuff later in the month.
Without a doubt, hoping we get access to the Playstation All-Stars beta later in September. VERY interested in that. Also would love it if we got Red Dead Redemption or some other cool games (like Uncharted 3).
As long as the free content (big games & small games) keeps coming, than Plus is worth it for me. Saves me a ton of money. The exclusive access to betas is a big plus too. So is the upcoming 1gb of save space.
Playstation Plus is a really cool service so far.

Some good discounts. You should contact some publishers about their massively overpriced PSP games on PSN.Like Ace Combat, Cars 2, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, DoA Paradise, Dirt 2, etc.
Really bad when there is a PS Vita game that is almost the same price. Like Hot Shots Open Tee 2 ($29.99) and World Invitational ($34.99). That is just derpy. And its a Sony owned property ffs.
And it would have been nice if the Borderlands DLC was discounted. Its cheaper to just buy a bluray of the GOTY edition than buy the DLC.

I’ve been a + member since last years PSN outage, and for that first year, it was great.
But it seems pretty obvious now what Sony is doing. Nearly all the games it is offering ‘free rental’ for, are pretty old, which means the majority of PS players already have them. Thus, only new comers to PlayStation will want them.
Which is what Sony wants. New people signing up to PlayStation Plus. They really don’t seem to have much regard for people who have been signed up to them for a while, and don’t seem to be doing anything to keep us happy.
I mean, why would they? They know for a fact that the majority of people will continue to pay the PS+ membership, simply because they don’t want to lose access to the games they already have.
Basically, Sony has no incentive to try and make long term + members happy, and will continue to only try and recruit new comers to the scheme.
i read a lot of comments about eu+ being better , i remember very well at e3 sony said that all eu plus games will eventually rotate to america and america to eu . so really no point in subscribing to bought or leaving for eu plus. you will see soon its going to be eu+ complaining that us+ is better.
Someone mentioned above that maybe we should just get all the games early in the month. I think that’s a great idea because we would get a few games, have a month to play through them and then come back next month for more. Personally I would love this. But it’s just a suggestion.
Borderlands!! Awesome!! Thanks Sony for the update. And most of all (and judging from the many whiners complaining on this blog, you don’t get much praise often), thanks for being the ONLY console that actually offers a membership that gives you free games and discounts!

So here’s what i propose…remember when PSN came back online after a month or so of an outage. Sony offered i believe it was 6 PSN/PS3 games for free ,but you could only pick 2. So my point is instead of touting a bunch of games that are the same for everyone to download why not offer it where there are 6 PS3 ,and 6 PSN games available for download every month with 2 rotating out every month in each category. Out of those 6 each user can only chose 3 from each category. still giving them 6 games a month which is plenty of content for the price ,and is also giving them options.
Or at least something along those lines.
Another alternative would be offer an alternative game or 2 for users who would have said free game in their transaction history as a purchased title (not collected for free from Plus)

I’ll try not to groan too hard because it’s an improvement over last month… but the EU is getting Red Dead Redemption this month. I won’t be renewing my subscription and I’ll leave it at that.
i own a ps vita and really happy with my purchase and now even more excited to hear the plus is coming to the vita i cant wait for the deals im about to get. i currently dont have the subscription because im waiting for it to come to the vita so i could just buy it straight from the ps store when will it be coming to the god of portable devices ?
I heard that there’s going to be an Okami HD remake. Any news on that?

You seem like all my God were getting borderlands but the truth is it’s a sales plot as borderlands2 is coming out that same month and I bet you be able to download it day one. Talk About a business decision to try to make money and not what plus members want!
I love the fact of borderlands being free, I have all the dlc, (thanks goty) and had to sell borderlands not too long ago, beat the crap out of it on that “other” console, and I have my pre order down for Borderlands 2 at gamestop. However my PS 3d display just hit the blinking RLOD and now I await my cardboard coffin and spend the next month of downtime going nuts while Aromored Kill comes into play (yay premium) and I lose a month of psplus… I should ask for compensation for that lost time. That was my only t.v…. I am angry bout that one.
However yes many gamers have played the crap out of BL and have no need of this update, It certainly is better than the PSN only giving of last month, August 3rd was my birthday and I hoped Sony would’ve given me better presents, (not actually hoping like that lol). Keep full PS3 games coming.
And Morgan buddy, this is to you… I know you actually have more information available than what you claim, and that a lost job would be the result of telling us but here’s a thought. Give the community (Plus) the opportunity to vote on several games that we would like one of these months. Restrict it to only active psplus members so that the results are from the receiving demographic and not the whole psn. Make it several catagories (psn, ps3, ps1, ps2) and give us several popular titles to choose from in each. Then roll them out through the following month.
Angry people would be the minority, the community would have what they want (mostly)

Getting Borderlands is a step in the right direction. It is still a dissapointment to me because I bought that game when it was released 3 years ago. I really hope that we see one more full PS3 game this month.
I see a lot of people want to do some kind of poll on what we want for PS+ games. I personally don’t ever see that happening. The free game deals are just that; they are deals made between Sony and the devs or publishers. Look at Borderlands, free game, half price add ons. Not to mention that Borderlands2 comes out in 3 weeks. Its the same thing with TWD. Give you 2 episodes so if you like it you will buy the other 3. There is money to be made for the dev/pub on most of these deals. I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with that; I’m just saying that I really doubt the system will change.

Why is it whenever playstation announces what pl plus game we get for free its always a game i already own. This is the main reason I hate ps plus. They should just have a huge poll and let people choose, kind of like steam. God sony I hate you so much right now.
My plus ends on September 11th so I only have a few days to play borderlands. But I got Infamous 2 and now Borderlands for my 3 month subscription so it was well worth it.
Very disappointing update for me. One game that, yes, I will download and play, then a bunch of discounts on games that I would have little to no interest in even if they were free.
I realize there is another update coming in 2 weeks and that this is still decent value for the subscription price – but, like others have pointed out, this is a terrible deal compared to what the EU is getting. I can’t complain too much; I got Plus just over a month ago and have plenty of games to still play through here. But when it runs out next month I am definitely going to try and switch over to EU as there does not seem to be enough turnover to make the NA Plus worth it over a long period (especially compared to the EU).
My suggestions for improvement (all of which the EU plus is already doing):
1. Announce the full month instead of biweekly.
2. Add Motorstorm Apocalypse to the NA Plus!
3. More day 1 freebies e.g. new PSN games such as Retro/grade.
Just in time, would a possible Red Dead game include Undead Nightmare. Always wanted to play that DLC.
Plus is great, I just have too many games to play right now.
Any chance of having SUIKODEN 2 on PSN?…. Suikoden 1 has been on PSN for years now… Hope we can bring the 2nd too..

I just have to laugh, because that’s all I can really do. After being underwhelmed last month, I went out and bought Borderlands, since I figured that if Europe was getting it, then we wouldn’t be. Oh well, at least I got the GOTY edition.
I will now cross my fingers that Red Dead Redemption is not the next perk…

Overall plus has gotten better with the games In June July and August but it has lost things like themes and avatars which isn’t a good thing. It would be nice to have a plan to cater to everyone. That survey that went out months ago would be a nice way to solve this problem. I remember reading that it would raise the plus price 10 bucks but I don’t mind if that means getting more discounts and better games.
All I can say is don’t give us RE5 free next month everyone has already played it or owned it and sold it to get some money back.

Ok, I think I’m probably going to like BorderLands and I don’t own it yet. So some luck for me this month.
I’m actually glad we didn’t get Red Dead since I already own that. I’d enjoy dead space 2 though. Hopefully that will come our way ?
W.r.t to dicounted games… I really don’t care whether you offer them or not. I just treat that news as ‘noise’ and ignore it.
If its a game I really want to play I’d rather wait for the retail price for a hard copy to drop in price (e.g. I just picked up a new Uncharted 3 hadrcopy for 20 $). Downloaded games just doesn’t seem like something I’d be willing to pay money for. And enticing me with a little discount isn’t changing that. I also have been paying attention and I noticed that if its discounted today, there’s a good chance it’ll end up in the instant game pool sometime later.
So if it was up to me, the best way to solve that problem is stop this discount program, and focus on giving us better free games. Or maybe at least a broader selection so the chance that we already own the free games is bit ameliorated.

Morgan, time and time I see you comparing PS+ to netflix. Poor comparison chap, how many customers do you think netflix would have if their ‘instant movy collection’ would only contain 12 2 year old movies and they rotated out 3 of those every month, replacing some of the full feature movies with the first 2 episodes of a TV series?
I’ll tell you… very few!
A good subscription model should offer abundant selection, Netflix offers many movies I have no interest in, and that’s ok, because there’s many others that I do have an interest in. That’s what a good subscription service does: provide unlimited access to an elaborate catalog for a reasonable monthly price.
But the PS+ model with its limited selection and limited monthly refresh is one that is almost by design doomed to disappoint people who “didn’t get lucky this month”.
Just my 2 cents.
Your all talking to brick walls you should know by now complaining on here about the freebie selection is a waste of time since SCEA really doesnt give a rats behind what people want. Altho im willing to bet $10,000 that if SCEA gave people what they wanted they might actually keep customers for once. The selection is always crap we all know that heck if you can get about 2 free full ps3 games in a year that arent junk games then your doing good and breaking even. As long as i get at least that many games then that $50 a year is paid for. But yeah the selection does suck donkey nuggets i will give you all that much but complaining wont do any good. Heck even refusing to give them money doesnt strike a cord with SCEA anymore simply cause they always get noobie suckers to empty their wallets into SCEA pockets.

If I may,? My kids have really started to migrate from the 4 or 5 other game devices we have in the family to the PS3 more and more. They have spent even more time since we joined PS+. There were a few great “Family” oriented releases for PlayStation Plus members when you started the Instant Game collection. We would love to see some more kid or family friendly titles make there way in again. Psst, “just keep the awesome mature games coming”

Just got my PS3 a week ago and I already have 5 (soon to be 6) new free games to play. I am very happy with PS + so far as it will take me at least 3-4 months to play through the games I already have. I’m very excited about borderlands and all the other games to come in the future. Thanks to PS+, I will now be a happy subscriber for a long time.
I love Borderlands, played it on the 360 but now I get the chance to earn the trophies on PS3. So gives me a reason to replay the game all over again.
As for the people hating the update, I can understand if Sony was releasing the same rotation of games but clearly this game was not offered before to Plus members. So if you played it before great, but that doesn’t mean everybody has. I’m lost as to what you expect from Plus, one person said this game is old, so are you thinking that we’re going to get brand new releases or games that have been out for a couple months? Walking Dead is fairly new so you do get some newer games. Again if they offer us 3 to 4 NEW games and by NEW I mean new offers that Plus members haven’t gotten before, every month than I’m good with that.
However I would like some better PS1 game offerings than Hot Shots Golf please. I know Resident Evil was already offered but I would not complain about getting it offered again in October as I missed out on it last year. OH and how about a PS2 game every now again, I have 1 and that was Twisted Metal Black which came with the new game and not even offered on PSN. Your faithful gamers need some trips down memory lane every few months please. Thanks
To not with the negative flow here, can you shine some light on why european plus members get the better game then we do? Is it a licensing issue? To be honest I probably wont play much of boarderland, I bought the cs go pre order. But I will give it a chance, to me thats plus is all about. Thanks to you guys im hooked on the walking dead games. I’m buying ep3 tomorrow. I will say this I used to be on xbox live and microsoft never made me feel like they care about customers the way sony does even if it responding to trolls complain on there forums. So please bring us ds2 rdr and anything europeans get. PS what do we have to do to get splinter cell conviction on psn?

As a long time XBox Live user I decided to see what Playstation Plus was all about, So far I have been more than thrilled with my purchase. I am a single father who doesn’t have a lot of expendable cash and I have had new games to play constantly since my purchase. Its really made my life easier and allowed me to continue my hobby without breaking the bank.
For people complaining they already own the games good for you, hopefully something gets released that you would like, as for me I own Borderlands on my Xbox but I will use the free download as an excuse to play it again.
does anyone knows if those who have a US account can buy the EU PS+ subscription?? i already know that my account is US, and i used to be a plus member but it recently ended and i was thinking about renewing it; but the US users seems to be getting ripped out in this area
us US users are plainly getting ripped this month and has already been noted we should be getting RDR also…this may just make me quit ps+ all together and make me a EU account where i can get some real games…thanks for nothing.
