Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster Out Today on PS3, PS Vita

Sakura Minamida's Avatar + Posted by Sakura Minamida on Mar 18, 2014 // Senior Product Manager, Square Enix

We’re coming to you today to let you know that Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster is available to pick up and take home now on both PS3 and PS Vita, bringing two classic RPGs to the modern age. Whether Final Fantasy X was one of your favorite games back on the PS2, or you never got a chance to try it, there’s never been a better time to play.

The HD Remasters of both games are feature complete with all the International Edition content that never got released here in North America, and now they take advantage of all the neat stuff PlayStation consoles offer. You’ve got some major Trophy hunting to do, and the two versions feature cross save compatibility with each other, so if you’ve got both, you never have to be without your game. The music is completely remastered, there’s a bonus audio drama… This is truly the definitive version of both games!

Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD RemasterFinal Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster

We had a lot of great pre-order bonuses going, and while that window has passed, I can say that there are still very limited quantities of the Collector’s Edition in stock, but they won’t last long. The Collector’s Edition comes with a beautiful 40 page art book, five full-sized lithograph prints, and the Final Fantasy X HD Remaster Blu-ray Soundtrack, which has over six hours of music from the game and the MP3 files available on the disc. The soundtrack alone retails for $59.99, so $79.99 for that plus the game and art book is a pretty good deal by my math.

Finally, near and dear to my heart is the Final Fantasy X | X-2 Art Gallery Exhibition, running now through March 26th at the Gallery Nucleus here in Southern California. If you’re not local to the area, all of the art from the show is currently on auction. These prints are all one of one, and come with a certificate of authenticity signed by Producer Yoshinori Kitase. They will never be reproduced, and a few pieces are even original art by the development staff, including Art Director Yusuke Naora and Character Designer Tetsuya Nomura. All the proceeds from this art will be donated to the Typhoon Haiyan relief effort, so please consider bidding. We’ll ship anywhere in the world.

Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster

I’ll end this blog on a personal note to say that it’s been a blast working on Final Fantasy X, a game that I sunk more than 200 happy hours into and never regretted one of them. Not even when a friend saved over my game and I had to start over.

Tidus opens the game with the line, “Listen to my story. This may be our last chance.” So tell us your Final Fantasy X story in the comments. We’d love to hear it!

I remember buying a PS2 after having my Gamecube for a bit, just to play FF X. I played it so much and it’s my second favourite after FF VI, so I can’t wait to have this for my Vita so i can play anywhere! Stoked!

I have refreshed the blog and the PSN page every 30 minutes but it seems have not yet uploaded to the store. Why don’t you make it Day 1 digital or Pre-order so it would be downloaded when available, and be ready when I wake up? Gosh! I feel like I waited almost forever to get it.

FFX-2 is 3.5GB download data. Square has said it before. So the FFX/FFX-2 Download file together would probably be around 8 GB..

I went out and bought at 32GB card for this, so I need these to be on the PSN like right now!

I would have purchased the CE, but I like the cover of the Special Edition way more beautiful. No need for white japanese covers for me. I ordered both Vita and PS3 from Amazon. Might get it in some weeks.

+ timmylom on March 18th, 2014 at 6:50 am said:

@StalkerD, the PS3 LE cover is just a slide off cover, it has the Japanese Boxart on it’s actual case too.
However the CE, has an full page lithograph of the LE “boxart”

No need to get worried guys. The PSN store usually doesn’t update before noon. With that said, you can expect to download the games at about 12:00 CST. Another important notice: Those who are waiting for the digital vita version of FFX/X-2 will have wait a couple of hours longer. I have no idea why, but the Vita store always updates later than the PS3 store. If you have a PS3, you can simply download the Vita game there and transfer it to your handheld. Let’s hope Sony won’t let us down today and get their stores updated at noon.

Every year I replay both games on my PS2. I never seem to get tired of the story, the battle mechanics and the world of Spira. It’s one of the best worlds ever created in video games.

Since both X and X-2 are my favorite games, I ordered the CE edition from the Square-Enix store, the Limited Edition for the PS3 and Vita, plus the strategy guide (for the artwork). I’ll probably buy the regular PS3 version too just because the box-art is different haha.

Seriously, thank you Square-Enix for bringing this back. I’m loving these HD remakes of older games and hope to see more in the future… specifically FFVIII, FFIX, FFXII and the Romancing SaGa.

+ timmylom on March 18th, 2014 at 7:04 am said:

It will be available for Digital purchase, PS3 and PS Vita versions, however Sony notoriously sucks at updating the PSN.

Can’t wait to get this today! X was the last great FF in my opinion, so this is a real treat. Hoping one day the SE brings these battle systems back that make FF for me.

What time? I can’t wait anymore :(

27

+ timmylom on March 18th, 2014 at 7:09 am said:

@nnamdug
Why 12CST? That’s really peculiar because Sony is based in PT, as you might be able to determine from the time stamps here in the comments.

28

+ BloodyYuki29 on March 18th, 2014 at 7:12 am said:

@timmylom Nnamdug might be in central time, like myself. That’s goof for pacific timers though, 10 am is a good time for a game. I gotta wait for noon.

29

+ StalkerD on March 18th, 2014 at 7:14 am said:

@timmylom,

true, but at least there is an outer cover with a gorgeous artwork that is way nicer than the CE one. I just don’t think the CE is worth it.

It gets 10 extra pages on the artbook, and a blu ray OST. The blu ray OST requires a blu ray drive, which means I can only use it on the PS3/PS4, as my vaio blu ray drive is dead. So I would have to not play my console to listen to music that I can easily get online, and transfer to my mp3 playing device.

Last but not least, I would have to go to the trouble of purchasing it on the Square shop, have it sent to an address that could ship it to me in Europe (where I am currently residing). So considering all the hassle and the fact that the additional content is not that relevant, I think it is better to stick with the Special Edition =P

I did use the Square shop to get FFXIII collector’s and Real Reborn Collector’s though. Those are very much worth the additional cost.

+ timmylom on March 18th, 2014 at 7:15 am said:

@BloodyYuki29, I’m not in Pacific time either. It just seems that the response he posted is just speculation from another user. Because even though I’m not happy about it, Sony has said that they will try and update the PSN by 2PM PT.

31

+ timmylom on March 18th, 2014 at 7:17 am said:

@StalkerD, if the bluray OST is anything like the OST included on the Last of Us’s bluray disk, you can extract the MP3’s using the PS3 and a flash drive to get the High Quality MP3’s to your computer. I think the CE is also getting released in Great Britain so you could order to CE from there. But I see you’ve already made your decision. I was just pointing out that the Japanese boxart is also the boxart for the LE, it just has the special art drawn for the re-release as a slide on cover.

32

+ timmylom on March 18th, 2014 at 7:19 am said:

@StalkerD, also, I’m also currently in Europe. My collector’s Edition shipped to my house in the States and got there yesterday March 17, at 10AM CST. I am dying on the inside waiting for the NA PSN to update so I can download the games on my North American Vita, with my PSN account.

33

+ RidleysBox on March 18th, 2014 at 7:19 am said:

Not a fan of the new touch controls on the vita version, but I do enjoy the game enough to justify buying the NA PS3 version as well. My only gripe is that you guys at Squeenix made one universal trophy list for PS3, Vita, NA, and JP versions. It would of been nice to have multiple plats on this.

Sony, why is it so hard to update PSN at midnight on release days?

36

+ DemonShadowX on March 18th, 2014 at 7:28 am said:

@19
Vita still hasn’t gotten game cards over 4gb. In Japan the retail version came with 2 game cards, 1 FFX and 1 FFX2. In US the retail version only has FFX on the game card and comes with a code you redeem for a digital version of X2.

SONY bait n switched every vita owner. console on the go? yea uh, show me a console that has a set limit of apps/saves? then takes that limit and shoves 18 undeletable apps into the mix. you should only ever be limited by your memory space limitations. developers could care less. SONY could care less. week after week vita gets new games/apps. this needed to be addressed 2 years ago!
the vita is in a perpetual arrested development due to this.
is it price gouging trickery, i.e. go get another inflated memory card? NO. its flat out incompetence. my psp had waaay over 100 saves. long live the XMB for having a saves allocated into their respected folder.

soo in essense the 3ds/psp are far superior to the vita due to this incompetent stunting of vitas’ tech. GREAT JOB SONY! you never cease to amaze us with your arbitrary limitations. hey, any word on allowing more then one user account? NO? whys that? ahhh
it would make the vita more accessible. GREAT ANSWER!
