Major PS4 System Software Update v2.00 Available Tomorrow

PS4‘s system software v2.00, codenamed Masamune, is making its arrival tomorrow and we can’t wait for you to check out all the new enhancements it’ll bring to your PS4. This update adds unique, forward-looking features like Share Play, and addresses some of the most highly requested features from the community including YouTube integration, USB music player, ability to find players you may know, sorting options for PS4’s game library, and themes that change the look of your home screen. This is the biggest update we’ve delivered to date for PS4.

For a look at what you can expect, check out our walkthrough video on key Masamune features. And don’t forget to watch the walkthrough video of the SharePlay feature.

Here’s a recap of some top features you can expect with Masamune in list form:

  • Share Play: PlayStation 4 will create an online local co-op experience by allowing you to invite a friend to join your game — even when they don’t own a copy of it. PlayStation Plus membership is required for certain Share Play features.
  • YouTube: Upload your gameplay highlights directly from PS4 to YouTube by clicking the “SHARE” button on DualShock 4. In addition, a YouTube app for PS4 will be available to download from the PlayStation Store.
  • Themes & Colors: Personalize your home screen background with select themes and colors. As a big thank-you to the PlayStation Nation, we want to kick-start your dynamic theme options by giving away a theme for two of the biggest titles gamers will be playing on PlayStation 4 this fall; Destiny and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Both themes will be available for download on Tuesday.
  • Live Broadcasting Enhancements: Search filters, archived broadcast support and more have been added to Live from PlayStation
  • Content Area & Library: Find and access your content quicker with a redesigned Content Area and improved filter and sort functions for the PS4 Library.
  • USB Music Player*: Insert USB memory with music in your PS4 and start playing your favorite tunes in the background.
  • What’s New: To make the activity feed more relevant and timely for you, What’s New will add Friends of Friends suggestions and Live Broadcasting updates from your friends at the top of your feed.

PS Vita and PS TV Update

Also available tonight is a new system software update (v3.35) for PS Vita and PS TV, which includes 4-player Remote Play support for PS TV, as well as the Live from PlayStation app, which allows you watch game streams from PS4 on both your PS Vita and PS TV devices. A full features list and instructions for updating PS Vita and PS TV can be found here after the update goes live.

PS App Update

Lastly, don’t forget to update your PlayStation App on your mobile devices to the latest version. The new 2.0 update will include a redesigned home screen, and a new layout for tablets.

This has been an amazing first year for PS4 so far, with more than 10 million units sold and a robust set of new features already added including SHAREfactory, automatic pre-download, and more. We are pleased to see the great feedback we’ve been getting from fans like you, which helps us to make PS4 the best place to play.

Let us know what you think about these new features and let’s keep the conversation going!

*User can play music files stored inside USB storage but cannot copy music files to PS4 HDD. This application cannot be used at the same time with Music Unlimited. USB Music Player will appear once USB storage is inserted, and will disappear once USB storage is removed.

  • From what I can understand from this video, there will be no way to post a “recorded” broadcast to YouTube, only gameplay video. That is a bad oversight, if true, and takes the YouTube features from awesome to unusable for me. I hope I am wrong.

Nobody wants to go back into video editing and comment on their own gameplay AFTER the fact, especially since the PS4 is obviously capable of recording broadcasts.

  • I am so stoked for tommorrow these updates are the most requested from the playstation community greatness awaits us!!!!!!!!

  • I just want to see when my friends log on

  • But when can we upgrade sub accounts into Master Accounts?

  • YouTube app! Finally! So sick of using the browser. Hopefully it’s better than the 360’s YouTube app, which is mostly fine, but kinda sluggish (though that’s probs the system) and has at least one weird bug where it randomly unsubscribes me from my most-viewed channels.

Voice commands sound neat, but I doubt I’ll use them, especially since I only use my headset when my girlfriend’s sleeping or I’m doing some multiplayer. Too bad the DualShock 4 doesn’t have a built-in mic in addition to its speaker. Honestly, I always thought headset-based voice commands made way more sense than shouting at a camera from across the room.

  • We should have the option to install applications such as Twitter or Facebook, it would be great to browse on social media apps on the PS4.

  • it’d be nice if i could download the PlayStation App on my surface pro 3 tablet

  • Updates on updates on updates!

  • i hope i can use my vita as a usb while plugged in because i dont have any usbs

  • Here are some more sample’s of my PlayStation 4 feature wish list.

    – Add the ability to Record everyone’s Voices in Party Chat when recording/streaming.

  • Cannot wait for this update! Just got done planning out a YouTube video entailing all of the new features! Thanks for the continued support and updates for the PlayStation App guys! PlayStation for life!

  • i am really impress with this update. one thing Sony have to do is to make the watch ESPN app available for download because WE the sports fans really love that app

  • USB Music Player

I have a few comments on this feature.

First, it is a step in the right direction but allowing us to copy content to our PS4 would be better since we only have 2 USB ports available.

At this time, the PS4 is only capable of “talking” to one connected USB drive, if multiple USB drives are connected then the system complains and refuses to recognize any until all but 1 have been removed.

Has this been fixed or are we going to have to resort to constantly plugging/un-plugging drives from our systems??

  • Yes Sony thank y’all I will love this update please bring it tomorrow Tuesday the 28th we all can’t wait much longer : ) and please add cool themes and colors in the future I m so excited for themes I am gonna download them all:)

  • Yes Sony thank y’all I will love this update

  • DLNA support and a Plex app would be super cool. I’d finally take the plunge and buy a PS4 if you updated with these features.

  • Please add a voice command feature that let’s me just say something like, “Playstation, record video” and it records instead of me having to double tap the “share” button.

  • We want to have our own customized Ps4 themes!
But YouTube has arrived! Excited for that.

  • @112….. ever heard of a USB hub? I have one connected to my PS3, and I bet one of the ones for my PC’s would work on the PS4 if I needed more then 2 slots…..

  • Thanks for making a big announcement adding features that should have been there when we opened our ps4 boxes nov 15,2013. Please continue to pat yourselves on the back for releasing the ps4 and it’s games 1/2 finished. We all love the release day fw updates that always gives us the confidence that we purchased a finished product. Makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside when we get things a year after they should have been implemented. pfft

  • So does the update roll out at 12:00 am est ??

  • I know that my PS4 is primarily for gaming, but where is the DLNA support?

  • My ps4 update system software in October 29 2014 is my ps4 new update:-)

  • What time??

  • Can we get a broadcast, or statement for the friends list informing others of what activities you are interested in doing.. XYZ game, raid, pvp, shareplay a new game.

And offer nameable folders in the friends list. :)

  • Will we ever get PS4 Backwards Compatibility via Playstation Now? I WANT!

  • Cooool

  • Sony, what about the playstation blog in content area, we have the what’s new for friends but we dont have ps news at home screen, what better place for playstation’s news than the console itself? what about make VOD and AVOD apps hdmi cec capable?

  • BEST UPDATE EVVVVVVVVERR!!

  • Dear, Playstation and all playstation users can you please confirm or deny if the new youtube app will display at 1080p the ps3 app displayed at 720p i was wondering on the “NEXT GEN” consoles if it would be displaying at 1080p in the app.

  • i have a serious question. will i ever be able to download videos off the web like i can on the ps3? basically will the ps4 / vita ever have these functions turned on? or are they not even built in

  • I wonder what format the usb stick will need to be. Probably FAT32 (exFAT).

  • I wont be playing any games tomorrow because I’ll be playing with menus XD
But once Im done with that Im share playing with my buddy in California. Im in New York so this, will be interesting!

  • hopefully that little green dot next to our friends list will allow us to put us in private mode or offline mode and I need video chat and then my life will be complete

  • The PS3.5 is almost complete… just need that video player and PSHome

  • I hope you guys finally followed Android’s design guidelines, and hopefully you made it Material but I doubt that. And why no 1080p recording??? All my videos on Youtube are 720p…

  • I can’t wait! Have been waiting for YouTube, the themes look great, and USB music support is awesome as well. Since everyone else seems to be posting their wish list, I’ll throw mine out there as well…
    1) Ability to change psn names.
    2) notifications for friends logging on to psn.
    3) Ability to purchase PS1/PS2 games. This is the big one. I would even be fine if this was done through ps now, as long as I could pay one price to own the digital rights indefinitely. If I had the ability to purchase digital copies of older games that I knew I would have access to on future generations of hardware, I would stay on the playstation ecosystem forever. The rent for a month option does nothing for me. I can’t be the only one…

  • How about some better bundles or MS will dominate this holiday Sony?? All your bundles have been 449, MS has some now 349 with a free game bundled in, pass on some deals to the customer.

  • very nice. can’t wait to finally, and i do mean FINALLY, be able to try everything out tomorrow. i wonder if the youtube app will have any improvements or if it’s just the same app from the ps3. either way, can’t wait. using youtube on the ps4 browser wasn’t exactly my favorite.

  • im ready!

  • Guys! We are going about this all wrong. Sony needs to start letting the community decide what they focus on for the next update. A list of features promised needs to be written up and posted on this blog and allow users to vote on the next feature. Microsoft system was lacking but the monthly updates and details really showed progress unlike the current approach on Sony’s end. Smaller updates instead of one big update because everything is all over the place and fully implemented like with USB music player.

Sony could make this easier by being more transparent and less vague by realizing post or comments that constantly says, “coming soon” really annoys people and announcing an update almost 2 months ahead of time is pointless, in the sense of having that much time pass without info and wasting time posting 1 or 2 highlights every so often.

  • You people might want to start crying now about how late the store update’s ! With this update coming out we might be lucky if we get it before midnight . Lol !! Let the tears start flowing !

  • – DLNA
    – MP3 copied to HDD
    – Photo viewer
    – Video support including but not limited to MP4, AVI, DivX, MKV, WMV etc.and to put it on the HDD as well.
    – CUSTOM Wallpapers, I want to be able to set my own background just like how the PSP, PS3 and PS Vita can. PLEASE\
    – Suspend/Resume play

  • wait I want to know something I have the PlayStation TV and is there a update for it? if so what time it will be to update???

  • seems legit.

this stuff should have been on the system at launch though…and even with these additions, it still seems there are features from the PS3 that PS4 still doesn’t have. like, for instance, i noticed there was no mention of being able to use a custom background. not to mention the way in which the sorting/organization system was explained, it seems inferior to the system used on PS3..

there’s also DLNA that everyone’s asking for…i have no use for it myself, but it seems like something a lot of users want…and we’re STILL waiting on the ability to change our PSN-ID.

additionally, i noticed the demo presenter had driveclub….trying to tell us something, or just rubbing salt in the wound?
