So many titles that thrive off of DLC.
DOA is one of them. Literally hundreds of $ in DLC on several games, instead of just delivering a finished product.

Man, you can really tell the mindset this week is “Eh, Bloodborne is releasing, just do whatever.”
That aside, I’ll ask again, like I always do it seems, are we ever getting real themes for our consoles again? Not these overpriced, thrown together, often poorly named ones– Where are the ones based on, you know, the games? Japan probably has a good dozen Vita ones now that could be brought over, but we still don’t have them. How much longer are we going to have to wait for them? Could you at least give us some transparency? Tell us whether or not they’re coming so we don’t have to keep wondering. Is that really so difficult?

A game having DLC, especially cosmetic DLC, does not make the game “incomplete.” It means you can have a complete game that has more content. This is, again, especially true with cosmetic DLC, as it’s often made by artists who have nothing to do after a game goes gold, meaning it can’t be put into the game anyway as it was already done. Suggesting that a game having cosmetic DLC makes it “incomplete” is laughable.
I predict there will be another Flash sale this Friday the 27th. Mark my words. Could you guys plz include some more PSone titles, Mmmkay?

Those “artists” are not in charge of production. The decision to hold back on portions of a game are managerial decisions, not freelance commissions initiated by an employee. This is a practice in which the parties that own the IP are making a consciencious decision to create material that will held back to sell after people have purchased the product.
Several titles have content included that the seller locks away from the consumer, despite their purchase of it. Street Fighter X Tekken was one such sham. The content was produced, the disc was sold in a manner that resembles paying an entrance fee to enter a store.
As a professional artist, I can tell you that there’s nothing laughable about it.

@12, Ixcain- If you’re an Independent artist, I agree. But were you a gamer 1st? If so, cosmetic DLC has been charged, bought by consumers, & stored on the media or delivered Day 1 for a long time. Plenty of people buy it, hence its continued existence. Further, I can tell you artists part of any major development house will find cosmetic DLC a favorable business decision. It allows them to produce some different designs & the release often turns a nice profit for little work.
Lastly, you compare these to ‘portions’ of the game. A game mode, a level, I would concede. But cosmetic DLC doesn’t complete a game nor can I consider it a viable portion of an gaming title.

I think what it comes down to is how and what. As you said, levels and settings, something that would have been commonly unlocked with “secret codes” in the past, should be included. I’ll even say cosmetics.. to a point (Street Fighter II [snes])
In certain cases content is introduced in somewhat limited quantities and are arguable separate from normal development (eg. Little Big Planet). In others, the content in question is arguably a substantial dedicated project (eg. World of Warcraft expansions).
But sometimes…. there are games that are simply, as I stated above, paid storefronts.
I forget what title it was on PSN, but on release day it was priced at $30 or $40. The “aftermarket” DLC available that same day added up to $380 (US) (adjusting for “package deals”. That’s just flat out gouging.
There’s titles outside of PSN’s market that do this too. Two involve Plants…. and Zombies.

Any news on Media Go issue?
Bought somethings recently but I can’t download them since I only have a PSP…
I had purchased Gran Turismo PSP, and according to the PS TV compatibility list as well as the Playstation Store, the game is supposed to be compatible with PS TV. But when I try to download the game from the PS store onto my PS TV, I get an error message stating that the game is not compatible with PS TV. How do we fix this Sony?

I bought 2013: Infected Wars a couple hours ago, and I’m having a lot of fun with it. $5 for hours of zombie head exploding goodness! I really need to start saving for a PS4 though, because that Bloodborne hype is too much for me to withstand.
Great update! :) Might get god of war ascension. Also is it possible for God of War 3 and Killzone completion along with the tomb raider trilogy to be released on PSN? Don’t know why these games, and others haven’t been put up, when all there sequels and previous games have been, Thanks :)

Well said, overseventhousand. I’m getting sick of people complaining about DLC – while some of their complaints are legit (Street Fighter), DLC is entirely optional. You don’t have to buy or download any of it (the exception being costume data for fighting games, which in most cases are required for online play).
I for one love costumes that are released post-launch, so long as they’re not overly priced (looking at you, Namco!).
Oh goodie more garbage Vita themes no one asked for instead of the Freedom Wars and Oreshika themes that people have been asking for.
It has flagged the God of War Ascension games as UNAVAILABLE. Any idea as to why? I know I have not purchased these in the past.
My picture will probably end up on a milk carton, because i’ll be locked away playing Bloodborne, Metal Slug 3, and 2013 Infected Wars.
i really hope they have a God Of War Omnibus Collection with every game remastered for sale one day. at least DOA2:H is up for sale, maybe a buy since IMO that one was the best one of all.
PlayStation Mobile titles should get blog posts again when the store updates. Was just thinking about that.
@32 i do agree with most of what you’re saying. Some DLC (Fallout 3) i find to be legitimately created after the game is shipped and not playing the add-ons doesn’t take away from my enjoyment of the main game. But there are far too many that either have the DLC on disc, or are charging for things that used to be unlockables or included in the main game. However, i don’t think Sony or the devs will “take a hint” because it’s clearly selling. What i want to know is who on earth is buying this crap? They’re the ones ruining it for the rest of us, not so much Sony or the devs.
