Latest info on PlayStation Network Status

As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.

We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.

Errors include:

  • The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
  • When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
  • When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
    trophies. Please exit your game.”
  • When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
  • Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

  • I cant believe anyone is actually defending Sony. This whole situation is ridiculous. Theres no reason why it should be this hard to get some information about what is going on. Ive just recently found out about this and Ive had to invest waayy too much of my own time researching..

  • 60 Gb
    hey guys
This is discusting how sony are dealing with everyone i rang up and got told to buy another for £150 then i did a full system format and it read games and blue rays again then stopped again today the bug deffiently has caused this because my computer was fine dont play it alot and then wen that happend the computer has gone weird since not loading games and stuff women said it had nothing to do with the bug but seen as its happening to thousands of people think they better start thinking of a way to fix what theyve caused !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I’ve just gotten the PSN error message while trying to log in, followed by my system beeping three times and going to a blinking red light. This is a full two weeks after the supposed problem was fixed, that kind of timing seems more than coincidence for my ps3 to suddenly break, did daylight savings time just ruin my playstation?

  • SAME THING has happened to me. After the March 1 fiasco, my PS# stopped reading the game discs. I reset the default system. Had to do this every time to play a game.

Noticed that setting the date for daylight savings DID NOT WORK via PS Network. I had to manually set the correct time. The while playing MW2, the console shut off. And won’t turn back on. BTW the rented game is still inside.

$180 to get it fixed in 3 weeks time. Went to buy the new PS3, out of stock for 2 weeks. This is a BIG screw up SONY. you should pay for fixing what you fouled up.

  • Fk sony those MF are trying to Fk our ps3 MF.

re-posting this to the blog since I originally just posted to forums (along with many others) in relation to the “leap year” bug and flashing red light of death soon afterward –

    ————————————
Same situation for us with our 60GB unit – PS3 was off continuously from the last Saturday in February until the morning of March 3. My son played MW2 for about 3 minutes before school started, and the PS3 shut down. He tried to turn it back on to no avail – green light, yellow light, flashing red light. There is NO WAY this is a “coincidence” for so many people. We got the same corporate line from Sony when we called unfortunately, and even followed up with an e-mail.

  • Ok guys here is another one for you to figure out I’ve looked up everywhere and everyone thinks they know how to fix this error but so far nothing has worked for me at all my ps3 says it finds my ip address and fails to connect to internet i have tried all the dns stuff ppl have talked about switch from wired to wireless and back again switch around where wire is plugged restored ps3 the work and nothing work i can play my games get trophies but cant sync them to the server so unless i buy or borrow a ps3 from someone im gonna loose all my new trophies since this glitchiness started happening because ill have to transfer all data from ps3 to ps3 wired or else ill loose all my data and possibly my account i have ppl online that have my account and unless i can find a way to get ahold of one of them to deactivate my account from their ps3 then im gonna loose my account if i dont buy i new ps3 and transfer the data i dont want to have to do this cuz i have the limited edition 80gb fully backwards compatible ps3 with 4 usb slots and the sd card reader slots so id rather not switch the the slim but at this point looks like i have no other choice so if anyone can get back to me on this i would greatly appreciate this thanks

  • My PS3 still won’t connect. We’d recently installed a new router and kept thinking that was the problem because it doesn’t like any of our other devices in the house, but the browser on the PS3 works perfectly fine. I found that error code under the Time/Date settings after reading about this, and realised that our PS3 is one of the first ones made, so naturally we have this error.

Firstly, why weren’t we prewarned? Sony clearly knew it was going to happen, they stopped it from happening in the slimlines so fixed it before they released those.

Secondly, they say it has been fixed – why does mine still not connect? What the hell do I have to do to make it work again?

I keep telling myself it’s a good thing I don’t have PSN so I can stay off MW2 and do some school work, but actually I want it back now, thankyouverymuch.
