Latest info on PlayStation Network Status

As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.

We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.

Errors include:

  • The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
  • When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
  • When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
    trophies. Please exit your game.”
  • When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
  • Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

For the latest status on this situation please continue to check either the PlayStation.Blog or PlayStation.com.

  • I was able to log on just now. The date & time read 4/28/2020 9:59 P.M. but I adjusted it via internet and it went back to normal.

  • The date on my ps3 is now 4/29. Also my themes aren’t corrupted anymore.

  • after reading from another thread, i disabled the internet connection in the system settings, waited about 3 seconds, enabled it again and went to date/time and set it through the internet. its working now.

the only game i had put in last knight to try was white knight chronicles, its trophies were gone. but after i loaded the game i quit and re-synced(so the games trophies could be reinstalled..this only worked after i started the game and then quit). they are all back, but i sync pretty regularly, so i was in luck. not sure how the rest of you will be.

    i have an 80gb(well its a 500gb upgrade)phat.

  • @378 That may work just fine but not everyone has the means to get that done. It is a little more technical than what most people know. Just because you found a fix for you doesn’t mean listening to Sony and not powering on the PS3 until they have a fix is BS. I for onee will wait for Sony because if their fix doesn’t work or messes it up even worse then they are responsible. If i try to fix my PS3 and I mess it up that is on me and I am out a PS3. So for most of us common sense is to just keep our PS3 systems off until further notice.

  • 00.50 in Europe and the thing seems fixed

  • well, i dont seemed to be having any problems. i have a 160GB uncharted budle PS3 and would be extremely pissed if something happened to it. =[

  • my ps3 said 12/31 lmao

  • Bummer Sony!!!

  • mine said 13/31 as well

  • i was on the ps3 and not using my xbox360 much, but now all my trophys are gone every one of them, these crap never hapens on the 360 every trophy i worked so hard for all my platinus gone these is crap long live xbox 360!!!!!!!

  • WOO HOO it’s back up on the Pacific coast..

  • Sony are you listening? It’s not all fixed.Whatever Trophies you earned when this happened are gone.Any way to get those back or is it more of them same no response? This was not our fault but yours.Take some ownership of this.

  • Thank You Sony…

  • that-acmilan-guy

    It is fixed.

  • Is it really fixed? I’m on the East coast and I’m so afraid to turn mine on for fear of having it bricked on me.

  • @409:
They said very clearly that you may not get trophies if you played during apocalyPS3. Hell they said you shouldn’t even turn your PS3 on. So in fact it IS your fault for being an idiot and not taking their advice.

  • I didn’t have any issues earlier. I mean it froze on my once but hard reboot and it worked again including signing into psn (no wonder it was a ghost town). I have a 60gb ps3 but I think that my clock on the system is wrong, which could explain why I haven’t had any issues. I did not earn any trophies today so I don’t know if I am affected in that regard

  • @136 thts funny

  • @410 srsly. none of the dlc i bought this wknd works. and if $ony doesn’t patch this issue, it’ll happen again next year

  • @407 haha, long live the RROD too! So the system is out for a day. So you forgot to sync your trophies…it’s just a game. Fire it back up and earn ’em all back again. The PS3 is a far better platform and is ‘rock’ solid 99.9% of the time.

Thx again Patrick for the update

  • that-acmilan-guy

Its safe to turn on your ps3 and connect to the internet. If by chance your game trophy is missing, just put the game back in and it will be back to where it was. Also remember to sync the time with the server. I think London finally struck midnight.

Finally, and yeah, i dont think few hours of waiting is anything like 360.

  • SCOOOORE! IT’S WORKING! IT’S WORKING! BUT DATE SAYS 4/29 and 1:54pm. I’M AFRAID. IT’S 3/1 and currently 7:02pm ORLANDO TIME. MAKE.BELIEVE!

  • Haha trophies are still there as well..
Good luck to the rest of you! Side note I have a 80gig 4port rc. And love it would hate to get a slim.

  • It’s works, phew, load off my mind

  • My trophies for GOW2 disappeared! The entire game is gone from the trophy list! You better fix that or else!!!

  • My 60GB PS3 just got over its 24 hour flu. xD

  • @413…I just finished this game last night when I got the error message during the closing credits…and how about the people who turned their system without knowing? Is that our fault too?

  • yay the ps3 is fixed =)

  • as GMT is now 3/2/10 all the PS3 should work it is a internal clock issue not a PSN issue

  • IT’S OFFICIAL! DATE & TIME SETTINGS > SET VIA INTERNET > DATE NOW 03/10/2010 7:08pm! I LOVE SONY! NETWORK’S ON!

DON’T EVERYONE SIGN ON AT ONCE, BEETCHES!

  • And for @413 if your curious no putting the game back in the system doesn’t restore anything as I’m now at 0%.Why should I or anyone else be penalized for Sony’s error?Find out all the info before calling people idiots.

  • For those of you saying its working, did your trophies return?

  • @428…All except Heavy Rain which was in the closing credits when the error meassage showed up.

  • @428 read my post #400, it worked for me

  • Sony never fixed anything. The PS3 internal clock is at fault. Its still broken and will occur again if they don’t fix the issue. That is if they are able to fix the issue since it appears to be a hardware issue that has been there since the machine was first made. Reason why the slim PS3 is immune is because its a new architecture of the console.

  • All my trophies and DLC work fine.

  • Well, my 60g logs into the PSN just fine now. Not going to attempt to actually play anything until I hear an official confirmation, but it seems like we’re out of the woods now.

  • @400…Thanks for the info I will try that now.

  • give us a gt5 release date soon please

  • My PS3 is working and everything is fine! (as far as I can tell at least)

Sorry about my angry posts! I should have never doubted you.

This is actually a really heavy burden lifted off my soldiers, I was worried about this, its kinda silly but I actually couldn’t sleep last night over this. How could I stay mad at my beloved Playstation :)

  • Alright! Everything is back to normal now. The trophy information for Heavy Rain and Bioshock 2 (the two games I tried to load up during the errors) disappeared but it all seems to be back now. No harm done, just a little glitch in the system.

Reminds me of when all the 30gb Zunes bricked for a day last year.

Anyway, thank you all at Sony for looking into it all, keeping us posted, and dealing with all the ignorant people on the internet.

Ahem, if you’ll excuse me, I need to get back to the Shadow War and to getting the other endings in Heavy Rain!

  • anyone confirm if it is up on the eastern coast and time?

  • This [DELETED] is too funny

Sad when gamers complain on and on even after the ps3’s are back online

How bout’ playing instead of whining or would you prefer Sony pulls the plug for another 24 hours lol lol lol lol

Now that would be some funny [DELETED] right there

  • Also, all my trophies returned.

I lost my WKC trophies and I had to put the game in for them to reappear, and my Heavy Rain trohpies are back (they were missing from the Playstation website trophy list)

  • Yes! Mine is fully functioning once again! :)

  • Looks like Sony just waited for the “phantom day” to pass because once GMT changed days it started working again.

So let’s fix this Sony so it doesn’t come back next year.

  • If you notice, the clock on your PS3 should read 4/29/2020!!!!

  • Mine is working and I’m in the Eastern time zone (NY)

  • lmao @437 Sony didn’t keep us posted at all. People are saying it’s fixed and they haven’t even announced it. There never responded to us.. not once… It’s been what? 8 hours?

  • thank you 443
