PS3 2011 Preview: 20 Exclusive Games

Sid Shuman's Avatar Posted by Director, SIEA Social Media

As Jeff is fond of pointing out, nearly every major PlayStation series is making an appearance in 2011 — even Kratos is in on the action with his guest turn in the new Mortal Kombat. Add third-party publisher PS3 exclusives and upcoming PSN games and upcoming PlayStation Move games and you’ve got a 2011 that’s jam-packed with PS3-exclusive titles.

Here’s an updated list of 20 games you’ll only play on PS3 in 2011, using the latest publicly available information. Of course, schedules can shift and plans can change — as always, we’ll keep you posted. For the moment, though, this is where we stand for 2011.

Did we miss anything? What’s the number one game you’re dying to play? Let us know in the comments!

Yakuza 4

Release date: March 15, 2011
Developer: SEGA
Publisher: SEGA
Raise hell in an open-world Tokyo (fictional Kamurocho, Tokyo’s red light district, to be precise) with stylish mobsters, a serial killer on the loose, and 100 million yen gone missing. Yakuza 4 ups the ante on Yakuza 3 by introducing three new characters, each sporting a unique set of bone-crunching hand-to-hand attacks. Once the violence is over, you can unwind with mini-games – a popular element of any Yakuza game — including karaoke, pachinko, and ping pong. And yes, hostess clubs will make the cut in the US version this time. And I’m not talking about the snack cakes.

Socom 4.

Sadly the advertising for Socom 4 is the worst in game history, seriously not even MP info or a release date and it’s still expected for 2011?

sleepy92 said:

I love Sony. Without even buying any multiplatform games, I could spend all of 2011 just playing PS3 exclusives. It seems like there is a sequel coming out for almost every big PS3 franchise. There’s only 6 games on that list that I don’t plan on buying.

All the others I’ll hopefully buy day 1 if I can afford to. I also want alot of multiplatform games, a PS phone and PSP2 if they release in 2011 and a Sony 3DTV. It’s safe to say all my money will be going to Sony as usual.

ico and sotc coclletion, inFAMOUS 2, Journey, Killzone 3, The Last Guardian, Motorstorm Apocalypse, No More Heroes, Pixeljunk Shooter 2, Resistance 3, and Uncharted 3. too many games =(

and I still don’t know how the wrestling moves in No More Heroes are going to work with the Move. As far as I can tell the navigation controller doesn’t have any motion sensing technology in it. On the *cough*Wii*cough* version of No More Heroes the wrestling moves are handled by moving the wiimote and nunchuk in certain directions when prompted.

I’m most looking forward to Journey, Team Ico Collection, Shooter 2, No More Heroes, Sorcery, The Last Guardian, LBP2, and Uncharted 3. Isn’t there a follow-up to Blue Toad Murder Files coming as well?

I’m also looking forward to Slam Bolt Scrappers, which I thought was exclusive, but I guess not. I’m also really looking forward to Double Fine’s next game, Stacking. Hopefully there are more TellTale releases (Sam & Max seasons 1 & 2, Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures, etc) coming to PSN in the coming year!

plaztiksyke said:

January 10th, 11:48 am

@112: yea, I thought it was really dumb of them not to include the same motion technology from the SixAxis into the Navigation controller. It totally screws things up for developers of new games, as well as folks porting other games.

Why has there been no new info whatsoever for Sorcery since E3? recall the developers saying that this was more of a concept demo for the game and that the real game may not even look the same as what we saw. The game, last we heard, is coming in Spring, but we really know nothing about it.

2.Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
3.inFamous 2
4.Little Big Planet 2
5.Killzone 3
6.Resistance 3
8.The Last Guardian
9.Team Ico Collection

Twisted Metal is the reason I got into gaming in the first place, I am so pumped that Jaffe and Campbell are heading this. Sony, this is your year! I’m also wondering what you’re going to be doing for 2012 because this is insane (in the best way possible)!

I still have my doubts about The Last Guardian making it out this year, but here’s hoping.

More stuff on my radar:

LBP2 (so close)
ICO Collection
Twisted Metal
R&C: All 4 One
Motorstorm: Apocalypse

And then there’s multiplatorm games like MvC3, Batman:AC, etc.
And then there’s games that haven’t been confirmed yet.
And then there’s my backlog from 2010.

…I’m so overwhelmed.
