E3 2013: PlayStation Devs Rake in Awards & Accolades

Scott Rohde's Avatar + Posted by Scott Rohde on Jun 28, 2013 // SVP of Product Development, Worldwide Studios America, SCEA

Wow, what an amazing E3! With all the excitement surrounding the show this year, it’s easy to forget that it was all topped off with the release of The Last Of Us at the end of the week! I hope everybody is enjoying the game; it’s truly special. My recommendation: play on hard mode with the headphones cranked up… in the dark, if you dare. :)

Congrats to Naughty Dog on another amazing title. Arguably their best yet?

This year’s E3 was very special for all of us at PlayStation, with all the buzz and anticipation surrounding PS4. For me personally, I get the added privilege of working with some of the most brilliantly talented developers in the industry, who are all focused to show off their latest creations at E3. We were overwhelmed by the tremendous support we received from the gaming industry during a fantastic E3 week.

I am honored to be a member of the PlayStation team as we look forward to a time of unprecedented excitement for gamers worldwide. From the launch of PS4 this holiday season — with an amazing lineup of games like Killzone: Shadow Fall, DRIVECLUB and KNACK, and inFAMOUS Second Son coming shortly thereafter — to the release of some of our biggest blockbusters ever on PS3 with Beyond: Two Souls and Gran Turismo 6, to the exciting lineup of new PS Vita titles including Killzone Mercenary and Tearaway, to all the amazing indie game announcements (Octodad!), it’s an amazing time to be a PlayStation gamer.

On behalf of PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios, I wanted to offer a humble congratulations to the all the teams who were nominated for Best of E3 awards. The developers have been working for months or even YEARS in preparation for a great showing this year. A sincere THANKS! to all the devs, the media, and most importantly, the incredible PlayStation community for your support this year. To celebrate a successful E3, we want to recognize all of the teams for their hard work. Check out the full list of awards and accolades below:

Hope Rey was right about Gamescom.. I’ve been hyping all my buddies too on VITA announcements since they were light at E3..

I realize that you guys didn’t want Vita games to be overshadowed by the PS4 launch.. but they really wouldn’t have… people are looking for a reason to pick up the Vita because of the compatibility with the PS4.. but can’t justify it until they can see it work!.. Give them a reason via Vita exclusives!! :)

I love my Vita and I’m a big fan of your work Sony..

Made by gamers, for the gamers.. and I can tell.

Well-deserved accolades. I’m very excited about all the possibilities this year and that’s on top of a ridiculous year-old backlog of PS3 and Vita games.

Infamous: Second Son was the best game I played at e3, Sucker Punch deserve a lot of credit and should be given the go for early advertising with PS4. If this is what’s coming in launch window I’m really impressed with what these studios have to go on.

I wasn’t really impressed by Drive Club, Evolution have a lot of work to do, the unveiling and video was great but the actual game was below par compared to it’s other Next Gen counterparts.

The difference between Playstation and its’ competitors has never been this great since PS2, but this time it’s much, MUCH bigger. It was a landslide victory for Sony at this E3.
PS4 is the definitive console to dominate the next generation, no contest.

First off, Second son, killzone Shadow Fall, and Tearaway look EPIC! Not to mention the Ps4, Game system of dreams come true right there. But, i am disappointed to hear that you will have to pay for online play on the Ps4. But what bothers me even more, is that fact that Sony is trying to hide it, in a way. Ive sent out posts but have gotten no responses. i had to google it to finally fiend out why. and they said, that for them to keep up with the new cloud serves and online streaming stuff, they need us to, i quote, “help share the burden” to help give it the support it needs. other then that, i have not seen any where else talking a bought it at all, excluding Sonys blog. Sony, if you want this “fee” to work, at least let people know a bought it, don’t let it be a shock when they buy there system and plug it in and want to play on line, and then fiend out they need to “pay” more money, to be able to do that… :(

@28 redj944
What are you talking about? Everyone knows they are charging to play online. They announced it at E3 and Tretton even said it in an interview with Goeff Keighly after E3. But its not a big deal. You’re going to get huge discounts and hundreds of free games for less than the price of one full game so what are you crying about? Having better servers is something worth paying for, but unlike Micro$haft who just charges to play online and blocks out access to your other subscriptions that you already paid for like Netflix, Sony will actually give you something back to justify the cost. Even better, most of us are already Plus members, so if PS4 were to launch tomorrow, we’d already be able to play online and even get Drive Club.
