Skytorn Coming to PS4

Noel Berry's Avatar Posted by Programmer, Skytorn

Hey everyone, my name is Noel Berry and I’m an independent game developer from Canada. I’ve been working on Skytorn over the past year alongside the developers of Towerfall Ascension and Night in the Woods in our Vancouver-based IndieHouse. Skytorn is a procedurally generated adventure / exploration game, set in the skies of a post-apocalyptic world. Our goal is to make a platform adventure game that is focused very heavily on combat, control, and exploration. We want the world to feel alive and dangerous, and let the player traverse it in interesting ways. Every time you play, you’ll discover a whole new island in the sky, with new dungeons and challenges to explore and overcome.

Skytorn takes place in a crumbling and decaying world in the sky. Survivors hold on to the remnants of technology left behind by the fading old society, searching for clues to reunite what was lost. Forgotten dungeons deep within the islands of the sky, now overrun with dark and dangerous creatures, hold the secrets to what once was.

You play as a traveller who uses her trusty shovel to dig through terrain and fight off hostile creatures. As you roam the island you will discover new enchantments for your shovel, such as one that electrifies your enemies, and another that creates solid ground where you swing. Dig deep enough and you’ll uncover the treacherous dungeons. A small outpost clings to the surface of the island where the survivors may help you prepare before adventuring into the depths.

We’re super excited to share the world of Skytorn with you, and are looking forward to seeing what you think! Feel free to leave a comment or ask a question – We’ll be around in the comments to answer stuff.

Yeah I’d play the crap out of this on my Vita. I mean, I might try it on PS4, but I can guarantee I’d play the crap out of it on my Vita.

Yeah, currently we’re focusing on the PS4 but I think the game would be really fun on Vita as well, though we can’t promise anything at the moment.

Looks cool. I hope you make the best game you can for PS4!

Then, when you’re done maybe bring it to Vita, too ;-)

easily the most beautiful pixel art game in the PSX keynote.

reminds me of Jill of the Jungle and Sword&Sworcery. were those games inspirations?

also, another vote/question on a Vita version :)

Looks really cool. I would also like to see a Vita port of this game once you’ve completed the PS4 version!

Is the game Rogue-like? Any RPG elements?

It has elements of both rogue-likes and RPGs. It’s procedurally generated but no permadeath, and your character gains new abilities and powerups as you explore and progress through the game.

Axiom Verge, Chasm, Shovel Knight, Night in the Woods and now this. I am in heaven.

yeah, this and axiom verge look pretty awesome.

played the PS4 demo of axiom verge, nice metroid clone, but disappointed in the lack of a diagonal aiming button like in super metroid, kinda annoying not to have one, especially with soo many buttons!

also, this indie games are probably better on PC, since steam machines are on the way, and $400 for SNES quality games is a bit crazy.

Super excited for this game. I’m not usually a fan of games like this, but I had a lot of fun smashing things with my shovel at PSX. Also, once last time I AM SO HAPPY WITH THE WATER YOU HAVE NO IDEA.
